Making Prefolds

I am planning on making a few prefolds. I just finished my first quilt and have some extra batting. I was wondering if anyone has tried to use this for the center of their prefolds and how it worked. Or if anyone has any general thoughts that might be helpful.

It might work if it is cotton batting, but if you used poly batting, I'd not use it. Part of the reason that Gerber prefolds get such a bad rap is that they use polyfil in them. There is a tute here:http://diaperfabric.com/sew-a-prefol...-the-real-way/
For making a pre-fold the 'real' way. Good luck!

I was given this batting, so I don't know what it is. How can I tell the difference?

You could do a burn test. take a tiny bit and put a flame to it. Melts=poly burns=cotton. I can tell by feeling of it, but that's from years of working with fabrics... Or you can take a swatch (if you aren't one to play with fire) and place it in a shallow dish of water. If it absorbs the water, it's cotton; if it just kinda sits there and doesn't wick it up, it's poly.

I am so glad I ran across this post.I found some prequilted batting and was planning on using it. I will go try that water test now to see if I can use it.
