Well that's interesting!

(I had to watch to see how Disney was going to deal with a recovering alcoholic princess...I knew it couldn't be right, but I thought you meant "Alcoholics Anonymous!" )

LOL--I thought the same thing. ha-ha. But yeah...took them long enough!

First animated African American princess (and yes, it's about time). I think Brandy was actually the first African American Disney princess when she played Cinderella.

I did read something that pointed out that the last three animated princesses have been Pocahontas, Jasmine and Mulan. Of course Mulan and Pocahontas have hardly made it to "princess" status. But at least they've mixed it up some.

Ok, now they need to work on the whole incredilbly thin with gigantic eyes thing.
Still it looks like it might be a cool story. I was a little bemused why she was holding the frog from such a height though!

Wonder if this one will have a mom this time?

Yes! I think her mother is Oprah, actually (or at least the voice).

So, first AA princess and first Disney Princess to have a living Mother (who isn't an evil step-mother).

Sleeping Beauty had a loving mother and a loving father. Am I outing myself as a Disney fan yet? In my defense, my relative created Goofy, so we have a family Disney history!

It is about time. It is kind of sad that as long as Disney has been around and it took them THIS long to do an animated AA princess? By the time Pocahontas and Mulan came out, I was pretty much tired of Disney and my dd didn't really get much into them. Anyways, my dd has moved passed the Disney princess stage.
However my favorite animated characters were Penny Proud and Kim Possible.

Yes, Sleeping Beauty had a mom and dad but they were pretty much MIA, weren't they? LOL How long was she in the woods with the faeries?

I feel so out of the movie loop cuz I didn't realize they were making that book into a film. We love that series!

ETA: I just watched the trailer. Is that based on the book? It's set in New Orleans, though...

Yup.

So I was wrong, another princess had a mom and dad, but they were pretty much absent.

I was a Disney fan for a long time and still love a lot of Disney films, but after I realized so many moms were missing it really soured Disney a lot in my eyes. Bambi had a mom too, but she was shot. And Dumbo had one but she was taken away.

me too. I agree with you. MIA parents are as bad as no parents in a Disney film.

Dumbo? Good god, that movie is very difficult for me to watch. It just kills me.

Dumbo at least got his mom back, though.

I'm not the biggest Disney fan in the world, but dh loves the movies, so we have most of them. We'll definitely see the new one when it comes out on DVD.

Excellent! So between the two of us, we've got a drunken, flat-chested princess.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Why the heck are my boobs so small?

I was just talking about this with someone about two weeks ago. I have been disappointed for along time about the lack of AA princesses in general, but especially from Disnsy.

Like many have said, it is about time.
