Sick baby, any ideas?
This is a bit of a saga, but any ideas would be appreciated.
Back in the spring, the son of a good friend of mine began having weird troubles.
First of all, he STOPPED growing! No gaining weight and no height increase. He
basically fell off the growth curve all of a sudden. This is a child who was born at
a health 8lb, 9+ oz, was at the TOP of the charts for weight. This all began right
around the time he started solids (7-8 mos or so). So, Mama was making all of his
food, but it was just going right thru him. He was ebf until solids and continued to
BF until he weaned himself at 13 mos. He also sleeps ALOT! Like, 11-12 hrs
straight at night and two 3 hour naps + a day. So then poor babe gets this weird
lymph node infection in his neck. They had to surgically open the thing to let it
drain and were thinking of removing it? Yikes. So, he was in the hospital for
weeks being tested for everthing from Cycstic Fibrosis to Celiac and chron's
disease and on multiple antibiotics. So, finally, after 2 lost stool samples, they
find some sort of parasite in his intestines, and they think this+ the infection is
what has stunted his growth.
This child is fully vax'd and has three older siblings. The kicker is that his older
brother just landed in the hospital with a swollen, infected lymph node in his
groin. When they drained the fliud (Mom had to fight to get them to do this as
the doc wanted to just 'wait and see') it was cloudy as all get out and very
OBVIOUSLY polluted w/ some form of bacteria.
Why are these boys getting sick? What is wrong with their immune systems? Is it
the vaxes? Could they be allergic to something in their house and it's weakening
their immune system? Their poor mom is just beside herself...Any suggestions are
welcome!
edited to say: His Mama has held off with the MMR on my advice, but other than that he's had all his shots
