oh honey, im so sorry. i have to believe that your strong support network will help you through this difficult time, as they did before. you and your family seem really close and well connected, which is an asset in the best of times as well as these more challenging ones. i too will be thinking about you.

Oh my gosh!I'm in shock for you!I just want to give you some big and offer my prayers and support as you figure out this situation. To all of you!(How is he handling it ?)

That really sucks. I can say that I fully understand. Dh was just laid off about 2 weeks ago. Not a nice feeling.
I was laid off 2 weeks before ds1 was born. I can tell you that it all works out. That doesn't help now I totally know! But often when big changes like this happen it ends up being a blessing in disguise. I hope you find that to be the case soon.

This ain't the time to worry...just remember that it'll all pan out.

Oh no, that's really terrible! You'll be in my prayers. So many on that list looking for work right now. I'm sure the Lord has a plan, and I know you're eagerly anticipating the revelation of said plan, 'cause this situation stinks!

He's handling it pretty well. He's out for a long thoughtful walk right now.

How about the mail today? We got 1) a brochure from the college I've been putting off finishing my classes at about the classes that are starting soon. I've been feeling like I really need to finish NOW and then today I was thinking that now's probably as good a time as any. And then 2) a card from the church I grew up in out west saying congrats and they are praying for us and it included a check from a love offering they took for us! The timing was just amazing. We were speechless.

Bucky... mama, what a hit to your family. You're in our thoughts.

Gotta believe in divine interactions...they say the best time to go back to school is when the economy is bad! (Plus if you don't have a Bachelor's degree and you're over 25 there's major financial aid (grants and scholarships that don't require payment back!)

Oh Bucky, I am so sorry. My dad was hit with layoffs last week, and it all sucks!

I'm sorry about the financial crunch! DH got laid off a year and a half ago, and we've managed to stay afloat. He's had a few odd jobs, but it made him realize that if he was ever going to get his phd, he'd have to go back to school. So now we're getting ready for that, and we're still going to have me as a stay-at-home mom, somehow. (I don't know how.) It's possible with grants, financial aid, TA positions, etc., to support a family (on very meager means, of course).

You CAN do it. :-)

For those of you interested in financial aid, here's what you do:

-Send in your application to the school.
-File your taxes asap, as you will need this information for step 3
-Fill out your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The sooner you get in the system, the more aid you are likely to get. Cross your fingers and hope for a PELL, or at the very least a subsidised Stafford loan.
-Apply for scholarships through your college of choice, or other venues listed here. As soon as you are accepted into your school (or before), speak with a financial aid counselor. They should have a whole catalogue they can give you with descriptions of scholarships and grants, and how to apply.
-Veterans, former military, current military, and their spouses or children, also go here for extra tips and resources.
