40+ TTC getting ready for the Holidays - Page 3

MsGB GO FOR IT with your own eggs! :::

Well, i'm not sure if I belong on the "hopeful" list or the "completely out of touch with reality" list, but here goes:

I am exclusively breastfeeding a nine month old and have not seen : since before he was conceived. It took about two years from "Ya know...I COULD still try and it might even work..." until I saw the word "pregnant" on a generic digital HPT. i used many different donors, but the one who "took" was a rare gem and has followed through with completely appropriate contact.

He is coming (at his own expense) for the first of hopefully many visits with Terran and we're going to insem. it's highly unlikely that anything will happen and i will be okay if it doesn't, i just figured i'd post here and on the ttc while breastfeeding thread anyway to see if i can increase my chances.

i have been advised to do the insem and then sleep with the light on for three days in a row and will do so. Thing is that i want another boy (I swayed for a girl with Terran so I'm obviously not serious enough about it to want to reduce my chances of a BABY because of a mild gender preference) so i was thinking about turning on the lights starting the day BEFORE the insem to increase my chances.

wwyd?

yea, if this were my dh or i was 30 it would be too soon, but i just can't pass up this opportunity. i'm not planning on having KD up again (on my dime if he'll accept it) until Terran is 2 or 3 and that may be too late for my old ovaries. The hardest part was finding donors and I just don't have the energy to go through that again.

Spider you are not crazy
Can you explain about the light please. Is it just a regular light? ANd what is the purpose of it.

Thanks for your support everyone. I usually don't test until I know I am PG (14 or 15 DPO) since I hate seeing BFNs so much. I don't know why, even with my nice chart I am not feeling that hopeful.

I guess 2 losses in a year wil do that to you too right? Like even if I am PG it doesn't mean I'll be having a baby.

That said, I need the +HPT as the first step so I'll take it!

I think nursing definitely decreases the libido. I am actually still nursing my 4.5 year old once a day and even that 10 minutes a day (right before he goes to sleep) kind of "touches me out" a bit. I', not tha tinterested in being touched after that. That said, I am sure the increased prolaction you ladies who are nursing more often has na even bigge rimpact.

Spider, I think it's super that you are trying again.

Pookietooth, I have been thinking of you lately with your due date coming up. I hope you get yuor sticky babe very soon.

Hi everyone. Home from a very tiring day at work, but just wanted to drop by for a moment before I try to relax for the evening.

11dpo and my temps look like my normal pattern too. I find these last few days of the TWW the hardest....

Veganmama, best of luck when you test!!

Tuwamare - Your chart looks pretty similar to mine with its regular ups and downs.

Oops. Got a call and have to scoot, so will just hit send now and check back later!
VM and Toni, you both have amazing charts! Fingers crossed for you both.
Hello to all the newbies. It's exciting to have more of you here with us.
Spider...it's been a long time, old friend. How are you? I'm glad you're ttcing again. Very cool. I'm worried about my old eggs and the likelihood of Down's, but I am going to do the follicle scan at the beginning of next cycle, which is probably around Dec 7th.

Had a great date with a new guy last night...Italian, from Rome. Very sweet. He actually made me a rose from a paper napkin.

im crampy

yuck, been crampy for two days and my chart looks like a picture of the inside of my head!! i think it will take time before i can even produce a chart that looks close to 'normal' whatever that may be. i have read almost the whole tcoyf book. lots of info. not really looking forward to a doctor appt. dont like the docs. appt is 19th, i guess he will either get me while AF is visiting or while pg. either one will be fun!

i was telling my hub the other day that this is the first time in my whole life i am having 'unprotected sex' pretty funny when we thought about it. i have always been on bc pills. wow. no wonder the chart looks like a lunatic. naughty girl!!

i may have to post this question on the 'big board' but i thought i would ask, does anyone have any type of autoimmune issues,
ie RA, lupus, etc. i was reading that sometimes they give enbrel for those who have it. hhmm i thought that would be a bad drug, i know the mtx shots can't be done while trying or when pg (cause i stopped my weekly injections about 4 months ago!!) so i was wondering about how enbrel might be diff. in not harming the pg?? plus since i hurt, and i mean HURT BIG TIME, i perked up at the thought of enbrel right now. i know if you are lucky enough to not understand this, you dont have autoimmune issues, lucky lucky lucky, count the blessings!! but it is another 'issue' to overcome with the docs. argh....

plus i am still not wanting a male RE doc. dont know why but since i have bad exp w/docs in general, most male, i guess i am jaded somewhat.

KAREN - when you say early tester? you mean how many sticks can you pee on?? yes, i am peeing on everything i can find that will tell me something! its pretty funny. but so far nothing has really told me much! just crampy today, but no AF yet. hm today is CD 25

so crampy might be not so good? we will see.... thanks for the ears again! good thoughts to everyone, thank goodness that foul mood thing passed, wow, that is a nasty way to be!

Bryn, if you haven't read The Infertility Cure by Randine Lewis, I would highly recommend it!

Me: temps lower today so my chart is starting the slide towards AF on Saturday.
But at least my LP is back to normal.

Hi ladies! Just a drive by. Read posts but no time to contribute!

My mom has RA... she was curious about the Enbrel when it first came out. Have they changed the formula at all with it? She decided against it because one of the possible side effects listed on the Enbrel website was cancer. Yikes. It is beyond me how they can get drugs approved that have side effects like cancer, virus infection and death. ::::shudder::::

I don't mean to apply this to you, personally, Bryn... I am speaking in general about some of these drugs for all sorts of conditions. If I were you, I would check out the Enbrel website and see what is listed for contraindications. Just do a Google search on Enbrel. It should say if they consider it safe for pregnancy or not. If they don't mention it, you can always call and ask your doctor and they can look it up in the Physicians' Desk Reference. I hope you find a way to manage your pain.

AFM: I'm on CD 26; 12dpo. On average, my period should start sometime tomorrow or the next day. I've been tracking possible symptoms very conservatively, and I am keeping my fingers crossed, which is making typing very difficult. LOL I am determined not to test until I am late, since I only have one test sitting in the bathroom cupboard.

Bryn, I have read that vitamin D is supposed to help RA, and it's not at all contraindicated during pregnancy, so maybe try relatively high does of that (they've recently revised the safe upper limit, to something like 10,000 IU). Here is a link: http://arthritis.battlingforhealth.c...oid-arthritis/
Best wishes, VM, for your test. MsG, I say go for it with your own eggs. Spider, same with you, I say go for it now, why not? I'll be 43 soon too and wish I had another one.

Hi noordinaryspider! Nice to see you posting here again. Awesome that you want to try again. Good luck!

VM, your chart looks great. : for you!

AFM, I am 31 weeks now, had a great visit with the OB today and feeling finally like there really is nothing to worry about. I turn 45 a week from today. Strangely, I am for the first time embarrassed to tell people how old I am. I guess now that I am so obviously pregnant I just feel a little weird in this small town where most of my contemporaries have kids in high school or college already. And of course, I don't look a day over somewhere in my 30s...

MsGoodBuns, I love to hear about your dates. A rose, how sweet!

Welcome new over-40 TTCers, I hope your stay here is short and the time productive.

Juneau Good to see you. WOW 31 weeks, you have such a short time left. Are you enjoying your pregnancy?
I told someone at a gathering a couple weeks ago that we have a 23 yo and an almost 21 yo and she said "What you so don't look like you could have kids that old." Made me feel pretty good.

MsGB I love hearing about your dates too. I am excited for you being able to give it a go with your own eggs.

Hi Juneau!

Toni, I am very excited and hopeful for you.

Just running to a meeting but hopefully I'll get back here later....
I'm at a conference in Westminster, Co and it is a bit dusty with snow out there.... neat, since I live in Napa!

Good news, I think! -- higher temp than even the last 2 days today - so I O'd on the 13th! 3 DPO now... Hope you all are well today, I hope to check in more when I don't have this out-of-town schedule pulling me around. :

enbrel and other drugs

POOKIE AND TUWA- yes, i do take vitamin D on cycles, pretty high doses, and i have never taken the enbrel due to the terrifying side effects too! i was on methotrexate for a long time and since stopping it, i am now realizing all that it did! which is why i am hurting so much. i guess it worked on a lot of joints i never knew about!! plus i have had so many injuries while on it and i guess i never knew how much it did for those too! wow.

i have no desire to take anything but if they push the enbrel toward me due to the potential of my body attacking anything and everything 'foreign' to it, i wanted to know from anyone out there if they had ever taken it while TTC or after successfully doing so?? i am down to taking almost nothing medicine wise, and it is showing in the way i can move at the end of the day!! i have one pain med left that i am 'allowed' to take, but that is it. YIKES.

i seriously doubt i will take the enbrel unless things get really unbearable. of course my big fear is that with an overactive immune system it will attack an egg or embryo, not the actual fetus, since it would have made it past any potential 'attack'. poor little guy!

if i had my way, i would take nothing but my prenatal vitamin and i take a lot of folic acid, dont like meds or docs so much, obviously anyone with illness has way to much involvement w/them, and it does get frustrating! that is why i PRAY that this doc on the 19th is nice and knows what he is talking about. i really hope i get a good one. kind of have no choice since he is the only one there! there are some female practitioners, but i know they will make me see the doc since my file is about 3" thick! too much for someone so young!

i successfully read the "take charge of fertility book" for the most part, i refer to it constantly. but the other one mentioned, not yet. but i have not made my second trip to library yet!

as JUNEAU stated- first time i am embarassed to think about my age!! still a bit crampy but no AFyet. the cramps seem to go away in the evening, then again i am only on cd26.

what a pleasure it would be to go to the doc on the 19th and say 'already did it doc so we wont be needing you!!!' fingers crossed!

hubby is still cracking me up with his statements, so between the two of us we are always laughing which is nice. he has been gone so long it is weird to adjust to him around the house again.

it's amazing how different it is to be alone for over a year, and then have a husband back again full time. i have cooked and cleaned more in two weeks than in one year! they say its like having a child when you have the hub. I agree! but i love that big child. and its very comforting to have him around again. ok, enough of the lovey ramble!

its soooo nice to read the success list at the beginning of this post, and to read the age next to them! hope to add many more soon!

good day to all = B

Would any of you consider doing something like this? It has all been set up by lawyers and has been approved by the state, so it is all legal and above board. Heck, I'd live almost anywhere if I could get a free house with new appliances.

Absolutely, I say get writing and good luck!

How exciting for you. Gosh you are just around the corner from having a new little one in your life. How cool is that!

Hi all!! I've been absent for a while. Things have been really crazy, then my computer at home got a bad virus and crashed!! It's still being worked on.

A lot to catch up on here!! So many new TTC'ers. Welcome to you all! So glad to have another Shelly close to my age here.

VM - your chart is looking very hopeful. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Bryn - I have RA and have taken Enbrel for several years now. I have researched it as much as I could for fertility issues and I have yet to come across any conflicts. In fact, I messed up and stopped it for a while and went to only Ibuprofen for my inflamation and hurts. I thought I was doing a good thing. Turns out I did a bad thing. Ibuprofen actually can stop you from ovulating, which is what happened to me. I haven't had any problems with Enbrel at all. In fact it works wonderful!! I feel so much better and can be much more active when I am taking it. I do know that methotrexate absolutely cannot be taken when TTC. It is used in conjunction with another drug for inducing early abortion/misscariage. The only caution that I know with Enbrel is if you get an infection you need to stop for a while to let your body fight it better. It is very expensive, so if you don't have good insurance coverage and have to pay out of pocket it is around $1800.00 a month!!
