Prenatals

Are you taking prenatals? If so, what kind? Are the the standard prenatals that your Ob/GYN or midwife prescribes or are they special prenatals that you bought online or from a health food store?

I have been avoiding prenatals this pregnancy because I'm convinced they are what contributed to my horrible ms with DD. I'm taking B-6 and folic acid. I would like to take more though, and am wondering if you have any recommendations for all natural vitamins? I want to avoid the prescription kind this time.

TIA!

Right now I am taking 4 pills-- a multivitamin (a Whole Foods standard one), a B-Complex, Folic Acid, and Fish Oil. Last time I didn't take prenatals per se, but a whole regimen of vitamins that my mw recommended (not prescription).

Last time my OB said to take a store brand multi-vitamin. She said that many of the vitamin store ones had too much vitamin A in them. When I was really nauseous I only took folic acid and iron, but otherwise I took the store brand multi.

I'm taking Rainbow Light Once/Day prenatals. I also take cod liver oil and probiotics.

I'm just taking my generic Target prenatal until I have my first midwife appointment and see what she says.

I'm taking a pre-natal that comes with two pills, one is DHA and the other is the vitamins. It is prescribed by my OB-gyn.

I remember that one made me sick with the little gel cap and I ended up switching RXs. How is it working for you?

I am taking Rainbow Light once-a-day prenatals. They have some added goodness like ginger to help keep the vitamin down, and other pregnancy-related herbals, as well as all the vitamin-y goodness. I believe they are vegan, also.

I am just taking Target brand prenatals. I did forget to take it on Sat. night , and I didn't feel as sick as usual on Sun. Now I am wondering if the pills may be partly to blame for the morning sickness.

While ttc I was always getting whatr I thought was m/s, but I wasn't pregnant. I went to the dr. and found out that it was the prenatal vit. that were making me feel sick.

I switched brands to an all organic prenatal and I haven't felt yucky since.

I take Rainbow Light Prenatal One, too. I really like them and so far they don't make me nauseous.

:ddc crasher:

Hey mamas! Welcome to the prego train!

When I had really bad m/s I couldn't keep my regular prenatal vitamin down either. So I went to the local health food shop and got a liquid multi-vit with DHA for pregnant and nursing mothers. You're supposed to take like a tablespoon in a glass of juice or water (or straight), twice a day. I ended up taking half doses in unsweetened apple juice, and drinking it with my small protein meals. I got the full daily dose, just took me longer. It tastes really nice, kinda like apricots.

For most of the pregnancy I've also taken a vitamin B 50 complex (for hypoglycemia), 500mg vitamin C (to strengthen the amniotic sac), and alfalfa (iron, fiber (never constipated EVER because of the alfalfa!), strengthens the amniotic sac, give the baby vit. K, a galactogue and a mild diuretic (helps immensely with swelling)).

Good luck ladies! Lots of love! : for your pregnancies!

I was taking rainbow light, but not the one a days, i find they really do a number on my stomach, so i was taking the sensitive stomach ones. But they constipated me too! So I called my midwife and got the ones that she sells which are called Prenatal Forte. I love these vitamins and even though I am supposed to take 6 a day it's worth it to have normal bowel functions. sorry if that is tmi!!

I'm taking the Rainbow Light ones as well, but the bottle says to take 6/day! :

They are giant horse pills and it seems a bit ridiculous. However, they were $35 so I need to finish this bottle. I'm going to get the once/day version after this. See what happens when I send DH to the store? His rationale - "I just bought the most expensive ones I could find. I figured they would be the best!"

Whole Foods standard prenatal here too! I think it's the 360. It's been very easy on my stomach. I'm also taking a vitamin B-Complex.

Im taking my kids chewables. : (some brand from the health food store that uses real food sources) They taste good, help the morning sickness and I already have them. I take 4 the package says for kids take 2. Im also taking Flax Oil. I have a green smoothie every morning full of spinach, bananas and fresh raw almond milk. (I figure that counts for something.)
I don't like the idea of artificial chemical man made vitamins.

Planning on drinking a quart of tea a day of RRL, nettle, red clover, alfalfa, and lemon balm. LOADED with good stuff us preggers need!! I drank a lot of nettle and RRL tea last pregnancy and I really think it helped my labor be so short (my family has looooong labors and it was my 1st), 6 hours total from start of easy contractions to end.

I am also going to FORCE myself to take my cod liver oil which I have been gagging on lately. ISH. And plan to up my liver consumption by taking it in tiny raw chunk (swallowed like a pill).

No standard prenatal for me, although I did take one with my DD and she turned out fabulous! I just have different ideas about nutrition this time around!!

rainbow light once a day for me too. a huge improvement over the 6 a day i took last time!

I'm taking 2 children's vitamins at night and one in the am. It's a little less than the optimum folic acid though so I need to get a supplement for that.
