Dr. Greg Gelpi in Baton Rouge?

Hi!
I am new to Baton Rouge, we moved here for my husband to attend LSU. One of his professors recommended this ped (Dr. Gelpi), but I am a bit concerned because we selectively vax and I have had some pretty bad reactions for this choice, like, "Get out of our practice right now and no, we won't treat your 10 month old baby with the 104 degree fever unless you agree to vax him here on the spot, fever or no." So wondering if anyone uses this ped? Or could recommend one? Thank you so much!

I'm not familiar with him but it seems like I saw someone talking about Dr Murli Rao on here. I called to make an appt yesterday and they asked about shot records - I said we don't vax - She said that was fine.
I think Dr Rao used to be in the same practice as the Dr your asking about but has since moved...actually I think he's moved very recently. Anyone know why??
I'll post later how the visit goes!

The visit went great! No worries over vaxing...He did ask if we were up to date. We said we don't vax. He said that's fine a lot of his patients don't. So try him out! If you want his number pm me.

well, thanks for the input from both of you! I guess I'm going to hunt down this Dr. Rao, having heard nothing but good about him. No pediatric practice is perfect, I've found... Thanks again for your experiences!

P.S. what's a stay-at-home-mom new to Baton Rouge supposed to do with her 4 1/2 yo son? We've tried the Botanical Gardens (a bit disappointing) and the zoo (he likes it but it's a bit far to go more than once a week) and all the playgrounds near me seem to be more places for people to park their cars and smoke during their lunch break than actual playgrounds. Not trying to pick on BR, I like a lot of things about it but we are so lonely and bored!
Thanks,
Rachel

You may want to start a new thread for this.....but It's My Party on Anselmo off of Essen Lane has free play hours, where you can take the kids to bounce in a myriad of spacewalks & obstacle courses. It's really a good deal for the money if you're low on cash. You can add Cici's pizza & a drink for slightly more. My two year old LOVES it. Bluebonnet library has storytime for different age groups. There is also a swamp tour thing off of Bluebonnet for younger kids, I forget what it's called. If you want to drive out to Gonzales, Jambalaya Park is awesome. It's super clean. In the summer they have a sprinkler park that's free, it's open 8am-8pm or something like that. And there's a pool and a playground next to it. The police station is next door. Very nice.

I *think* I may have sent you an email awhile back after you posted to a local natural list.

best playground

I've been in Baton Rouge about 1.5 yrs and The best playground is City Park. I have a 5 and 7 yr old and we always have fun there. There is one side specifically for age 5 and under and a dog park.

You might try posting this in the meetup.com group Louisiana Natural Birthers. It has a pretty active Baton Rouge community that could likely point you in the right direction.

Good luck.

Hey just to discuss selective vac "friendly" ped's I have taken my children to B.R. clinic (specifically to Ronnie Bombet) since birth and have always just never discussed it. Sometimes he'd mention it and I say not today and he drops it. I will tell you that his family and my family have had a Dr. patient relationship for honestly about 60 years (his father was my grandmothers ped as well). So I can't tell you that he might not more persistant with another family but with us no big deal.

I had a not-so-great experience with Dr. Bombet so I can't recommend him, but I've really had great experiences with just about every other ped at the BR Clinic. We especially like Dr. Wood.

I have heard Dr. Wood is good. Also heard great things about Dr. Bombet. We see Dr. Brumund and selectively vax. She has never given us any trouble about this, and we have been very happy with her.

We use (and LOVE) Dr. Bankston at the Baton Rouge Clinic. We selectively vax, and she's okay with it. I've heard wonderful things about Dr. Wood. Unfortunatley, I've heard that he is no longer accepting new patients (getting ready to retire, I assume?) We scheduled one visit with Dr. Bombet, and he entered the exam room by immediately refusing our child as a patient due to our selective vax schedule.

The peds now have a sign in the BR Clinic that says they won't see anyone who does not vax on schedule. I immediatly thought of how many people I've referred to the BRC and wanted to come and let you guys know, if anyone happens to read this.

Dr. Wood has never pushed vax on us, but we've just done them on a longer schedule, not refused them (except flu, chicken pox, and one other? it's been a while). I have heard he is taking new patients again. I so hope he's not getting ready to retire. He needs to keep going at least another (let's see my daughter is almost four soooo...) 14 years, by my count.
