My 18 year old brother is a senior in high school. He is coming to live with us to finish out his high school year. He has not had any vaccines since freshman year and never had hep. a vaccines. Well in order for him to go to school here he needs the whole serious of hep a and also polio, tetnus, mmr and hep b. My dd and myself are not vaxed. I will also be having a baby in 2 weeks who will not be vaxed. Not only am I a bit worried about him being around all of us after having them all... but he also doesnt want any since he has looked into them from the reseaarch I did. He wants to use the religious exemption but I am a bit confused as to how that will work since on his medical records it will show that he has had some. I have found the form for exemptions in Alaska but when we called the school today they kept saying the main thing is that he needs everything up to date. I am just very confused as to go about this since he has had some. Anyone have any info or advice for me?

You can claim a religious inspiration at any time... change of religion... nor do you have to be affiliated with a certain relig. group to claim a religous exemption. Some states also have philisoph. reasons open as well...

Look around there is a lot of information on this site.

Dont let them push you around... that would be my advice...

vaclib.org has a lot of info.

state exemptions

and loveyourohana is right...you can get religion at any time...he's 18, he could have been forced to be vaccinated until this point, and now has found god/buddha/etc and refuses to vaccinate himself...

peace...

The only thing Im wondering is if he will need my moms signiture for it? We have to sign a bunch of stuff for him to get into school because he will be living with us so I wasnt sure if he could just sign it or he would need her to do it.

Because he's 18 it'll be easier. He can claim religious exemption himself, and doesn't even have to explain a change in beliefs b/c HE did not choose vaccination prior to adulthood. Now it is not his parents' beliefs, but his own, that matter.
