GIRL! Dahlia Marie, born 11-09 at 4:45 am. 8lbs even, 20 inches long. So much for mother's intuition about gender
nak, so this will be quick & scattered.
I didn't get the UC I hoped for, her big head got stuck! I labored in the big green tub for almost 3 hours, contrax were right on top of the other with about 30 seconds in between. It did not feel right at all, and it wasn't the contrax talking, so I decided to go to the hospital at about 2:30 am. Was 4 cm when checked, deep in transition. A dose of morphine did absolutely nothing, so I got an epidural. Thankfully, it slowed the contrax a little, was checked again at 9 cm (it was almost 4am by this time), and baby rolled over 3-4 times and slid right out! She had a huge dent on her head where her forehead was sitting on my pubic bone. The back of her head was trying to come down, but her forehead was just... stuck. I have a feeling that if I would have waited to go in, she would have been wedged in so tight that I would have needed a section... as it is, it was wonderful that she was able to turn.
I had no after effects from the epidural, just a teeny tear on my labia, and the pubic bone pain I've been coping with was GONE... so, that explains why she hadn't dropped, and what body part I was feeling right above the bone
I had the most "natural" cb possible under the circumstances and a placenta smoothie later that morning
Dr. waited on the placenta and cord cutting, got to nurse immediately... I did loose a lot of blood, not enough for a transfusion. After I drank the smoothie, it slowed dramatically, and right now, I'm barely bleeding at all.
The funny thing is, I'm not upset that I did go in-- I had prepared myself that if I needed to, I would, and I am actually glad that I did. Even the epidural. Without it, I don't think my muscles would have relaxed enough for her to turn herself... It was absolutely mind-blowing how fast and strong those contrax were!
We were all treated very well, weren't hassled about anything but the first bath (and even then, nurse was sweet and just wanted to get thee poo out of Dahlia's hair). She did get the eye goo because we forgot to say anything, but it was wiped out immediately...
No one said a word about her sleeping in the bed with me, and I broke the "rooming-in" rule about babies being in the nursery over night
Anyway, gotta switch sides
