time limit for switching sides?

DS is almost 14 months.
He has decided that he only wants one side at a time. This is a pretty recent occurance.
I'm, wondering how long I have to get him on the other side, before my supply gets screwed up.
I'm not sure if that makes sense....

You usually feed on both sides. Then next time start on the side you ended on last time-to keep supply up.OK

So if he only eats on one side, do I have a 1/2 hr, and hour?? to get him on the full side?
OK, I'm tired.LOL

I would say offer him the other breast whenever with no set or specific time frame, or when he indicates he wants to nurse. I wouldn't worry about the time! My DD, 16 mos. sometimes nurses on both sides, other times, just one. So for he next feeding I start with the one she didn't use. It could be a half hour later, or 2 hours later. He sounds totally fine!!

DD is the same age and sometimes only wants one. I just offer the other breast at the next feeding. So far she usually is fine with that. I don't think there's a time limit at this age. Sometimes she wants to nurse a lot and other times we go 5 hours during the day. At night she almost always only nurses on one side at a time, but nurses every 1-3 hours at night.

DS didn't always take both sides at a feeding. DD2 never did, as I was tandem nursing and it was "one baby per side" and I usually (but not always) switched which DD was on which breast after each feeding. DS completely weaned from my right breast several years before he completely weaned- and the left breast had plenty of milk for him.

At 14mo, I wouldn't worry about it at all. I'd just alternate which breast you offer him (unless he decides for himself which one he wants.)

I wouldn't worry about it since your LO is older. DD is 19 months and now she picks her side. Sometimes she only nurses one side, sometimes she nurses both. Sometimes she wants the same side for 3 nursing sessions in a row! I never had any supply issues because of that.

I've always nursed one side at a time.

Me too -- my kids seemed to prefer it, and I've always had a terrific supply, so no harm done as far as I can see.

Thanks ladies.
I was worried because he nurses every 2.5-3 hours per night and I was worried about supply. He doesn't eat a ton of food. Mostly a grazer-so I wanted my supply to be enough if he needed it during the day.
I'll worry less now. Thanks!
