Salma Hayek may soon need rehabilitation for an addiction.

The actress, who gave birth to daughter Valentina in 2007, says she can't stop breastfeeding.

She said: "I'm like an alcoholic. It is like, I don't care if I cry, I don't care if I am fat, I am just going to do it for one more week, one more month, and then when I see how much good it is doing her and I can't stop."

The 42-year-old also said breastfeeding does not helps mothers shed post-pregnancy weight.

She told Style magazine: "The myth that says you lose all this weight when you breastfeed! That is so not true! It's like, please, will everyone stop telling me I look really well."

I have mixed feelings about this...while I'm glad that she is still breastfeeding, I kind of feel like this statement is giving breastfeeding a bad name. I also think that some women are now going to say, "See, breastfeeding doesn't help you lose weight; Salma Hayek said so!"

Weird. That is a very mixed message.

Seems like she is trying to present it as her own personal quirk, not trying to help be a role model and make it seem more "normal." Ah well, I won't blame her, I blame the interviewer/editor of this story.

To be fair, she's probably just reacting to outside pressure to wean. I think it's positive for her to talk about it, many other moms who are being pressured will be able to identify with her. Plus she talks about how good it still is for her daughter.

I don't blame her either. I wasn't posting it to slam her, I just wanted to see what others here had to say about it. I'm sure you guys get that, I just want to be sure that no one misinterprets why I posted it!

While I think it's great when celebs do see themselves as role models, I'm not sure that I agree that they always need to be in that mindset. So, if she isn't worried about being a breastfeeding model, that's cool with me.

Ack! DS2 started hitting buttons and my post got submitted before I could finish.

I do think that the reporter probably did a bad job of conveying what she was really trying to say. It's not like the media never misconstrues things...

Yeah, I definitely agree. I'm glad that she's talking about it, and that it's good for her daughter. I'm just not really fond of it being likened to alcoholism and addiction. I think that could win points for the camp that thinks that extended bfing is abuse. I can just see someone saying, "Oh, she's addicted to breastfeeding her toddler; that must mean that she's getting some kind of sexual pleasure out of it and she just can't give it up." I would totally disagree with that statement, but I could see an argument going that way, kwim?

I don't know, I find it a little refreshing. I know breastfeeding is a great way to shed post baby pounds and some people lose alot of weight by doing that and just that. But lots of people don't. Maybe she's one of them. I don't think it's right to declare it completely false just because YOUR weight didn't fall off immediately. Honestly I don't see where she's carrying alot of post baby weight (besides maybe in the chest area) I think she's looks better than "well", she looks freaking awesome. But whatever.

I sometimes have to roll my eyes at celebrities that are back in a size 00 2 minutes after having thier kids and insist they didn't not work out. They just sat around bonding with the little one, eating chocolate cake and breastfeeding. Kind of the same way the ones that drop an alarming amount of weight in a short time and insist that they don't work out, they eat cheezeburgers and fries on a daily basis, they just have a fast matabolism. I know that some people do...but I don't always feel they are being completely honest. It kind of sets women up for unrealistic expectations.

They are mere humans like the rest of us...but they also have access to resources that most of us don't. I also have to remind myself that it's their JOB to look good.

I thought it was a good thing that she is talking about nursing an older baby with no plans to stop anytime soon... Wish more celebs would come out for extended nursing, but the of course there's no product to endorse...
