Did anyone have cloth just not work for them and you switched to sposies?

I've posted several threads about our problems. Things were going great until ds was 15 months. He was teething and getting wicked rashes. Bleeding bottoms and really painful for him. He would scream at diaper changes. I used Pampers so I could use triple paste and it cleared up quickly. We went back to cloth and his bottom was quickly bleeding again. We did end up seeing the pediatrician who verified that it wasn't yeast. We switched back to Pampers and he was soon fine again. Tried 7th Generation disposables and he got rashy and bleeding again. We've had this cycle going now for three months. Seriously, Pampers appear to be the thing that don't cause his bottom to bleed.
I can not stand buying from them because they're Proctor and Gamble and I really dislike that company. Plus all the environmental factors and all the other good things about cloth. But my little guys skin health is most important.

I wash with Allen's. We use prefolds and Bummis covers (and we're not buying anything new/different). I do a cold rinse, no detergent, hot wash w/small amount of detergent, warm rinse. I've watched them in the rinse cycle and there are no soap bubbles. I tried boiling our diapers. I don't know that it's necessarily the cloth though, because for some reason the 7th Generation does the same thing.

I'm at a loss. I love his poufy cloth diapered butt. I JUST bought 6 brand new Bummis Snap covers right before the problems started. I love all the benefits of cd'ing, both for my son and the environment, and our bank account. I've gone on and on about cloth to people at work and friends and a couple people actually used cloth on their babies because of it. I feel like a hypocrite to be using sposies. I can't let my babe's bottom bleed though.

I'm about ready to give up for good. If anyone has any last ditch attempts for me, I'd love to hear them!

Okay, I know I said we're not buying anything new, but I can't stop obsessing about this. Maybe the problem is that he can't handle the wetness/poo against his skin. Maybe the 7th Generation don't have as much of the gel as the Pampers and that's why he reacts in them as well. People have suggested fleece before to lay in the diaper but I haven't tried it. The prefolds are so bulky as it is that I don't know if I want to add even more to it. Plus I tried a cotton liner one time when I needed to use diaper cream and the liner was moving all over before I could get the prefold up and cover fastened (we trifold).

Is this where something like a pocket diaper would be good? Those have fleece or something that touches the skin, right? Can I stuff with a trifolded prefold or do I need something special? Geez, I really don't want to go on the whole diaper search again. I was so overwhelmed before which is why we went w/prefolds and bummis. But if something else could work...

He's 26 pounds. I would hope that something can fit for the rest of diapering. If it could be trim, that would be nice too. His pants don't fit very well with prefolds. Any thoughts? Oh, we have a front load washer too, which is why we decided against any type of fleecy diaper to begin with, because I've heard a lot of stink horror stories about front load machines and cloth diapers.

We're dealing with a cloth diaper rash issue here

I am going to the fabric store tomorrow to buy a yard of micro fleece (thinner fleece) to cut liners to place in DD cloth diapers.

Like you, my babe got a horrible rash, like an ammonia/urine burn, and it went away when we diapered in disposables for an extended trip.

I came home, boiled, dishwashed, *and* bleached my diapers, and the same thing. I noticed that it isn't as bad in her one BumGenius diaper, which I think is due to the fleece liner. Hence my trip to Joanns tomorrow to buy some micro fleece.

FWIW I plan on zigzagging the edges, tho since it is fleece, one should be able to get by without serging/zigzag

I did that. I actually did the sanitary cycle. No bubbles.

I'm really wondering about pocket diapers now. Fuzzi Bunz? I was looking at jilliansdrawers.com and the description of pocket diapers is keeps baby dry and rash free. We'd have to spend so much money again though, and we *should* already have everything we need.

Although, just kind of thinking out loud here. At the current rate, we're spending about $60 a month on pampers diapers and wipes. I just bought enough for the next ten days or so tonight. Maybe I could use some of that budget and buy diapers a couple at a time, rather than all at once. Then we aren't hit with a huge chunk of money at once. Then I could put the pocket diapers in the rotation, and use disposables when we didn't have any more pockets. Eventually we'd have enough. And if it turned out that they were working really well, I'm sure dh would be okay with me ordering enough. We get our bonus at work in February, so I could do it then.

It would kind of be a bummer though, because I know they can be resold, but I'm probably never going to do that. I not very good about selling stuff. It sits around in my house until I get frustrated with it and give it away.

How many pockets do you usually go through for a toddler, washing every other day? He's 18 months now. And nowhere near potty learning ready yet.

We used pockets on our son at that age and he went though about 6-7 a day, but we did not use them at night (used a fitted + wool or fleece cover for night). I think you could likely get by with 12-14 if you were always on top of the wash and used a disposable at night. Plus you can use the prefolds as inserts, so you don't need a special insert.

If you get FuzziBunz or similar pockets used on diaperswappers or ebay, you should be able to get that many for $150 or less. I usually pay no more than $8-10 for a EUC used FuzziBunz. Alternately, I think they sell seconds direct from their site for about $14?

If we stuff FB's with a prefold, will it be too bulky? Will it stay in place or shift?
I'd try fleece first too.

As for prefolds stuffed in FBs, that is what we did and it worked just fine. No shifting and not too bulky IMO. I just trifolded them and slid them inside the pocket.

Definitely try fleece. Try changing your detergent, too. I also know that both of my kids, especially my son, will get a rash when they've had citrus and are in the cloth--it obviously has some type of reaction. It's worth thinking about--perhaps there's a food he's eating that is causing a reaction through his pee or poop, and with cloth it sits right there. You can use prefolds inside of a pocket. I think I prefer that to microfiber anyway.

And I'm not a huge bum genius fan, but the suedecloth is perfect for keeping them dry--you may want to consider order a BG (AIO or one size) to try. You could also try to find some suedecloth fabric to use as a liner in his prefolds.

I would definately try some mama-made fleece liners before buying any more diapers. We LOVE our fuzzi bunz and have used them on two babies now. However...my ds3's urine must be very acidic - we have never been able to let him use a fuzzi bunz or any other cloth diaper overnight. He breaks out into a horrid contact rash (it looks like he's wearing a red diaper on his skin
). Our cloth is fine during the day, but overnight is just too long for him to go with it against his skin, even with using fuzzi bunz. We gave up when he was a few months old and just started putting sposies on him at night.

Just thought I'd chime in here before you potentially wasted $$ on dipes.
