My son gives off "girl vibes."

Or something. I understood the confusion when he was younger, or had long hair, or both. Now he's almost 12, and still getting called a girl!

Two months ago, at a party, a boy a bit older than ds asked him "Are you a boy or a girl?" He was wearing "boyish" clothes and had a kind of shaggy, but not particularly long, haircut.

This past weekend, ds played in a soccer tournament. We were the only ones in line at the check-in. The official looked at ds, who was wearing a uniform, just like every other kid there, and sporting a buzz cut, and said "Girls 12 and under team?" :

Ds was just standing there, not even doing anything. He doesn't look like a girl to me, so I must be immune to the vibe!

My ds4, now, he does look like a girl-- "sweet" face and hair past his shoulders. When people compliment my "daughters," I don't even correct them anymore. I just say thank you.

Lol...I just posted something similar over in toddlers. DS wont let me cut his hair so its kinda longish now...not girly long though and I do think he looks very much like a boy but he has been called my daughter now 4 times this week so far!!!
I have a picture of him in my blog.
Youve a picture of your sons to share? hehe...
DS has even worn a purple dress once (for a few mintues in the house - it was his friends dress) and even then he still looked like a boy...a boy in a dress, but a boy! lol

How funny you should post this . . . my nephew is the same way. His name could be a boy's or girl's name, which makes it even more confusing for people. He's just so beautiful and has that "sweet" look so people assume he's a girl. He even had to argue with the people at ski school that yes he was supposed to be in the boy's bathroom.

My nephew is still pretty young. It never occured to me this could be an issue all the way up through adolesence. Does your son seem negatively impacted by the constant mixing up? So far my nephew doesn't mind, except when people don't believe him.

I don't know how to post pictures....

Ds isn't offended that people think he's a girl-- he even jokes about it sometimes. I think most boys his age would be displeased, though. Ds is kind of a strange kid, anyway.

I have had a few similar things with my own son, mainly because of his HUGE eye lashes... I mean huge. It looks like he is wearing mascara and eye liner, they are so thick and dark... it isn't fair.. Sad to be jealous of your 3 year old.

But any way, I probably wouldn't worry unless it bothers him, and hes going to be hitting puberty pretty soon and then I really doubt it will be a problem.

I had a kid in my class one year who's name was Adrien. He had VERY thick long black hair, long eyelashes, and a beautiful mouth.

He would walk into ANY men's restroom and announce loudly "YES I AM A BOY" as he walked in. Every time. He wouldn't ever walk into a bathroom without saying that.

It cracked me up. He was very beautiful.

Now he's 20 and looks like a handsome young man, his girl-ish features are still there, but the ladies love that about him. He's very GQ.

I got called a boy when I was 11. I did have shortish hair, but I was wearing a dress!!
Sometimes people just don't pay attention.

Ds has always been called a girl. His hair tends to be on the long side and he has fine features with big eyes and long eyelashes.

It doesn't happen so much anymore, but it always made me laugh, he could be wearing totally boy looking clothes, and people would assume he was a girl.
Even now when his hair gets long.

The funny thing, it has been exactly the opposite for dd. If she is not wearing something pink or overtly feminine, folks call her a boy. Always. She was a bald baby. I think she looks like a girl, though.
