Anyone start off HSing now sending your kid/s to PS? - Page 2

I homeschooled my DS for JK and part of SK. He started school in October of his SK year at a French Immersion school. He is now in grade 1 in a split 1/2 class at the same school. My DD#1 started JK on time because she was absolutely *not* interested in homeschooling and was desparate to start school.

I would say it has been a very positive experience for both of them. DD adores school and goes full days every second day and asks on her "off" days if it is a school day and is disappointed when the answer is no LOL. DS enjoys school for the most part and has a pretty impressive french vocabulary considering he is in grade 1 and really enjoys learning french but sometimes expresses the wish that he could stay home (not permanently but I think he would like to attend school say 3 days a week and be home the other two....this isn't an option though and he understands that).

So overall it has been a good though not perfect experience. I am still very involved with their education at home since my priorities and the schools priorities are very different at times but I try to concentrate my efforts on stuff that my kids consider enjoyable as well because I think 6 hours of "school" is enough for one child.

Thank goodness for this thread!! I wanted to hs dd1 so badly, and it's not going to work for us. We're enrolling her for kindergarten next year. I'm starting to look forward to spending some one on one time with my youngest.

We're at just over a month into my 12yo and 13yo dds being back in school after 5.5 years homeschooling. For my 13yo it's going wonderfully. For my 12 yo it is a complete disaster and really doing more harm than good. She is completely stressed - covered in hives every day when she feels really stressed and coming home in tears almost every day. Her teacher is completely unwilling to work with 12yo's learning issues and told her she "would have to get over it." She is probably coming home again after March break - if she makes it that long. We're in the process of setting up an appointment with her teacher to talk about it and see if they can do anything to help her stay in school.
