Great advise here! I'm soaking it all in!

Someone gave me the advise of including the dogs in baby chores. "Come on Willie, lets go change the baby." That kind of thing.

I have two dogs and think it will take some adjusting for them. I think the advise about the couch is great. We already kicked them off the bed and that went well. I'm wondering if we should start the couch thing now or wait till baby is born? What do you guys think?

We've also asked some friends with dogs if they would include our girls in walks in those first few weeks after baby is born so that we don't have to worry about getting them out for a run.

I think I'd start now, only to help establish the habit beforehand, since you're the Mama Dog, so to speak.

While it's fine for them to realize that new baby is higher on the totem pole than they are, it's good to have the least negative association with new baby as possible. So starting any changes beforehand in terms of where they're allowed to be, etc., would be good I think.

Another tip I remembered:

Get a nightlight lamp -- one of those cheapo lamps (Hobby Lobby has lots usually), that takes a nightlight bulb. If you can't find one, then get a nightlight wattage bulb (they sell them at Wal-Mart and Lowes) that will fit in a regular lamp. Put the lamp high up (like on a shelf or bookcase) near the changing area. That will give you enough light to change baby's diaper in the middle of the night, but won't require you to turn on a bright light or risk waking baby more fully.

You can get blackout curtains/shades, or just hang a heavy blanket over the window, too.

Take LOTS of pictures with you in them. Even if you don't think you look your best, or very good at all. When your little one is older, you'll be thankful to have them!

Nursing on your back........great Idea. I never thought of that and I totally wish I had known that 4 kids ago.

-sit on a big bouncy yoga ball and bounce like crazy to calm a crying baby

-if you have one of those newborns that demands to be swaddled, but is always "breaking out", the "Miracle Blanket" is true to it's name!!

-sing to your baby!
