Dandruff Question

I have dandruff and even head and shoulders doesn't work. When I scratch my head I have flakes under my nail. Eww! I try to use natural hair care products without parabens and stuff. Is there anything I can use that I might already have in my cupboard? Thank you!

Tea tree oil worked wonders for me. I just rubbed some into my scalp after showering a few times and what I though was chronic dandruff cleared right up for good!

The only thing that has taken away my dandruff is apple cider vinegar. It's best to get Braggs brand, but if you can't get it, try any brand. I dilute it and pour on my hair. Then, I rub it in good with my fingers and let it stay on for a couple minutes and then wash hair with regular shampoo. Do it for a few days in a row or until the dandruff is gone. Then, you only have to do it once a week or every two weeks depending on how bad you have it.

It has been the BEST thing that I have found!!!

I was just going to come on here and ask this very question!!! How much do you dilute the apple cider?

I don't measure it out. Maybe 1/3 cider 2/3 water. You can also put it directly on your scalp with cotton balls. I've done that before. If your dandruff is really bad, you probably want to try to get Braggs because it's not pasteurized. That process kills the good stuff. Regular works for me, but I have put it on a lot more often than when I use Braggs.

Unfortunately, we couldn't go the natural route for DH. He has psoriasis on his head so bad that it leaves bloody sores. We had to get him a shampoo with coal tar; it's the only thing that works.

I just bought some other unpasteurized brand. I've done about 1:4 dilution. Seems to be working! I'm definitely not as itchy.

My sister used Jason natural shampoo with TTO in it. She said it worked when regular H&S type things didn't.

I buy my vinegar at whole foods. Most health food stores carry a good unpasteurized apple cider vinegar.

I've tried Jason's and other dandruff shampoos from the health food store. I really didn't like them. I don't know if they helped with dandruff, but my hair didn't feel good afterwards. It still seemed greasy. I love the way my hair feels using the vinegar. And I can use normal shampoos afterwards. Ones that smell yummy instead of medicated.

Oh I am sorry. That sounds painful!

What works for dry, flaky scalp?

DD1 has this problem- I even bought her a natural shampoo with tea tree oil but it seems to be making her problem worse, not better- probably because she has a dry scalp rather than an oily one.
