Buyer Beware: Nordic Naturals

I just called NN to see if "natural peach flavor" in their CLO was corn derived.
Found out that it is not but ALL of their flavored CLO's have flavors derived from dairy and soy. Are you f-ing kidding me? DD's been taking this stuff for like a year now. What the hell do I do now?

OMG I Just looked at our NN bottle and it says specifically no gluten yeast, milk derivatives, art. colors/flavors. Says it contains vitE derived from refined soybean oil.

DD can't have dairy --- do we stop?

Can you get that in writing from them?

WOW- that sucks. So maybe you won't have to do the TED after all, huh?

What about the flavourless? Can you mix it with something so your dd will take it?

The rep I talked to said that there are no ingredients derived from dairy. She said that the only part that comes from cows was the gelatin in the soft gels (I inquired specifically about cows since DD is showing reactions to cow derived dairy). She assured me there was absolutely no dairy. She also said no soy as well .... but the bottle says there is soy. (on the childrens DHA and DHA Junior).

Someone else want to call to get a third opinion?

DM, did they say the flavors come from dairy and soy or corn?

It says right on the box that their Vitamin E is derived from soy (not on the ingredients panel of course, so I didn't see it when I first bought it). But in reading the rest of the box, when I got home, I saw that it had soy, so I returned it unopened to Whole Foods. I never asked about dairy because I the soy took it right out of the running. I'll call Vital Nutrients tomorrow to make sure, but that's what we use (I should say me, since I can't get DD or DS to drink it in anything).

I was only asking about the flavored ones because I won't be able to get DD to take an unflavored one. So...she told me that the "flavors" in all of the flavored CLO's are dairy and soy derived but NOT corn derived. Well, scratch that, I can only be certain that the peach flavor is not corn derived. In any case, I got the impression that none of it is safe. I am aware the vitamin E comes from soy oil - that is on the bottle, but dairy?????? How the hell do you get peach flavor from dairy? Perhaps I'll call again tomorrow.

I listed each and everyone of my dairy ingredients to the rep and she assured me that there was absolutely NO dairy at all. I'm not sure I believe her considering the conversation you had with a different rep, and your rep seems more knowledgeable. I think mine was reading from a script of sorts.

The person I talked to told me there is a list for each product and she was looking at the lists for each CLO to answer my question and that dairy and soy were in there. However, given your different answer I am definately calling again.

Eh, not enough vit. A & D anyways. (And they might be one of the companies that add back chemical forms??)

We use Radiant Life plain but the E might be from soy. Blue Ice doesn't have soy but DS can't do the rosemary in it.

yeah, i take blue ice but i don't think there's any way i can get dd to take it - the fish flavor is way too strong - even the orange flavor i have (i'll try though!). plus, doesn't the high vit oil provide too high a quantity of the vits for a 1 year old? what dose of green pastures blue ice would i give to a 17 month old?
I don't think so, one half teaspoon is 5000 IU of A and 500 IU of D.

What other sources of vitamin D does the 17 month old get?

D is absolutely critical for an atopic child.

well, right now she gets a separate D supp but I guess I would stop that if i switch to a high vit CLO. thanks for the feedback. i hadn't actually looked at the vit amounts on my bottle before i asked my question . i'll go check out that link.

So, she proved me wrong. DD sucked down the Blue Ice like it was candy (er, avocado). Problem solved!

yeah. It's funny. My kids are the same. I want to hurl when I take mine but they seem to love it.

Interesting. Thanks for the post and the discussion; I know a lot of people who take this and have food allergies. I'll have to give them a heads up.

My son takes the unflavored, raw CLO off a spoon and asks for more. The only thing in that is fermented CLO, nothing else.
