I'm to my wit's end with skin care products for my baby. He has extremely dry skin...to the point of it feeling leathery, i've cut dairy out of my diet..changed detergants..which has helped so so much. But his skin is so dry and peely. This is what i've tried to moisturize his skin.....olive oil...just makes his skin greasy feeling and it's off in a matter of min.....coconut oil...worked great for a few days...until i realized that he started to get raised red pathces on him from it.....burts bee's baby oil...same as coconut oil...burts bee's baby lotion....no reddness...but not enough to help with dry skin....breast milk...well it drys and doesnt moisturize...his skin still feel rough and peely. Some one mentioned Weleda products....before i invest b/c they are very expensive...please tell me what your exp. has been.

I don't know if your baby has any allergies, but weleda usually has some kind of nut oil. my ds had horrible eczema and it actually got worse after using weleda. We later found out he is allergic to peanuts. I don't think it is peanut oil in the weleda, but he was reacting to something in it. We really like vanicream. It is free of most chemical irritants. (we also used other 'natural' types of creams, but many do have nut oils...)

California Baby is made without nuts, gluten, soy, etc... Don't know if it will work for you but worth a try. There is a Sensitive one if you don't want essential oils.

I don't trust Burt's Bees anymore. They sold out to Clorex a couple of years ago and their ingredients have changed! The last bottle of apricot oil I bought was made with 'vegetable oil'.

We wash with California Baby, Cetaphil or Dr. Bronner's unscented Baby Bar soap. They soak in the bath for a good long time. After the bath, I immediately lotion them with Vanicream (you can buy it at a pharmacy, sometimes they have to order it; it's cheapest at Walmart). Both of my allergy kids have drier skin than they're non-allergic sibs, despite getting rid of the eczema through allergen avoidance.

Your son's skin sounds a lot like my son's when he has eczema patches. The only thing I've found to work for my kids without making the problem worse was Vaseline. A friend was able to make a homemade product that basically did the same thing, but was made with bee's wax and that worked for a while. Unfortunately it stopped working after a couple weeks and we were back to the Vaseline.

ETA: Be careful with products for "sensitive skin." For some reason, they ALWAYS make my kids skin worse and I actually get hives from them.

Oh and I forgot, I use Aveeno Oatmeal lotion on my own skin as I'm allergic to every other lotion I've tried.

I use weleda on my kids and myself as well. It is very good for preventing and healing diaper rashes. I have an extremely sensitive skin and it works well for my babies too. We use the cream bath, the lavender bath and the shower/shampoo stuff too. It is expensive, but worth it IMHO. I've noticed sometimes they sell these very small trial boxes with a few products in them, maybe that would be a way of finding out if it works for your LO? FWIW: with my eldest it didn't help one bit for her eczema. Probiotics did though

We went through a bunch of lotions like PP. Vanicream works for us. My allergist had samples of that and Ceravae (has chemicals but worked when skin was really bad).

I used to use Weleda but I stopped because they use Almond oil. I use Shikai Children's Borage Lotion now. It's great stuff. Very healing.

Weleda body cream also has xantham gum if you can't do corn..

Weleda sometimes has 'fragrance' too. I usually try to find a good herbal salve with plant oils and healing herbs. I stay away from the big brands altogether. Pure shea butter is great and very moisturizing.

My DD reacted to shea butter. Possible due to the peanut relationship?
