I can self host. But I though Wordpress didn't allow things like ads, etc.

A Wordpress Hosted Wordpress blog doesn't allow ads. A self hosted Wordpress blog does, and the software is free to install.

It sounds really interesting and something I might like to try. I am pretty good with computers but not with really technical things, so I am not sure if I could design a good blog or not.. I have a few questions though about blogging for money.. First, do you need to have a niche or can you just blog about anything, if you are trying to generate interest and make money? Also, would your blog be found more easily if you have your own domain name or can it still become popular using a site like blogger.com or something similar? Also is it best to start with something like google's adsense? Well I really appreciate any more info on this.
