Knitting a felted bag

Does anyone have a pattern for a knitted felted bag that is super easy? Or do you think it might be doable without a pattern. I was thinking like a large purse or small tote size. I want to make one for each of my sisters for Christmas. I was hoping for something that could be whipped up on big needles so it could be done pretty fast. Any ideas? I'm a pretty beginning knitter so I need something fairly simple. TIA for your help.

Here are the directions we use in a beginner's knitting class I teach at work.

Directions for Knit and Felt Satchel

Body of satchel:
1.Using size 11 needles, CO 80 sts and join the round.

2.Work in st st for 1 row.

3.Work in p st for 5 rows.

4.Work in st st for 44 rows.

5.BO, weave in ends.

Handles (make 2)
6.Beg with 8" tail (you’ll sew the handle to the bag with the later). CO 5 st.

7.Work 40 rows.

8.BO and cut the tail to 8".

Assembly
9.Set the bag down so the bottom ends are even. Sew from one end to the other. Do not pull the yarn too tightly or when you felt it the seam will pucker and lay differently than the rest of the satchel. Weave in ends.

10.Using the tails on your handles, sew the handles to the top edge of the bag, 12 st from each side (count in from the side). Weave in ends.

11.Optional: Using cotton thread, baste the bag opening shut.

Felting
12.Felt in the washing machine. While the bag is still wet, remove the cotton thread. Adjust the top and sides of the bag so they are even. Let the bag dry flat.
