Ouch!!
I have been battling thrush since august-- I can only describe it as a feeling like a hot poker going deep into my nipple towards my rib cage. Other people say it is like crushed glass in your nipples. Usually one side is worse than the other. It can also be itchy. When the babe latches on it can be excruciating. After babe finishes nursing the tip of the nipple looks blanched sometimes. Nipples can be red and flaky, or shiny.
I am so sorry that you are hurting. There are millions of posts on here about how to treat it, so I won't be redundant, but stop eating sugars asap if you think you have thrush!
The only other thing I can add is that with my first kid I thought I had thrush for months and months and I was treating it very aggressively to no avail-- turns out it was a topical dairy allergy-- when my nursing toddler ate dairy products and then nursed, it irritated my skin. I know it sounds far-fetched, but if I help just one mama with my weird experience, then I will be happy!
This summer when I really did have thrush, the only thing that helped me was the homemade recipe for APNO (All Purpose Nipple Ointment) with OTC (over the counter products) it is amazing!!. Search on the message boards, it should be easy to find.
good luck!!
