My baby smells different...

My 17m DD smells weird... she has kind of a sweet strange smell, especially around the head and neck. I don't find it unpleasant but it's definitely different; even my DH has noticed it. I can't pin it down to her hair or ears or mouth or anything. There's nothing new in her diet or in mine. No new shampoos or detergents.

Her diaper in the morning has also, in the last few weeks, often had a very strong ammonia smell and seems extra wet.

She's not acting sick at all; developing normal; no change in appetite.

I don't recall my older DS changing "smells". I've always been very attuned to the way my kids smell; I joke that I could pick them out of a lineup of 100 kids just by smelling their necks.

Any hypotheses?

Do you have a health care provider that you trust that you'd be willing to have check her out? It may be nothing, but odd smells can indicate medical problems. Sweet smells can be a sign of a metabolic disorder and I believe that ammonia can indicate diabetes or liver issues. The fact that she's acting normally is a good sign, though! Hopefully it's nothing!

Hmm.. I just noticed the same thing in my DD who just turned 17 months. She smells sweet, though I haven't noticed a difference in the morning diapers.
