A Romance Thread?

I know that I can't be the only one who reads romance.....but maybe I'm the only one who will admit it. Would anyone like to talk favorite authors or books or genres or anything? I'm a pretty ecelectic reader, but I also write historical. Unfortunately, the whole genre seems hit or miss to me. Took a trip to the library the other day and two of the books were such a waste of time. Before I became a sahm, I was a social worker. Got hooked on romance because I desperately needed an escape and something with a guaranteed happy ending. Any other readers out there?

I read romances. My mom is an avid romance reader and it is a way for my mom and me to connect. Plus, they are quick and easy reads that are very entertaining.

Some of my favorite authors:

Christina Dodd
Jayne Ann Krentz
Elizabeth Lowell (I loved her jewel series)
Julie Garwood
Julia Quinn
Kay Hooper
JD Robb/Nora Roberts (I love all of her JD Robb books, but not all of her Nora Roberts)

Romance novels are my guilty pleasure. I know they aren't necessarily the best writing out there but they are fun. Dh calls them my whore novels and makes fun of me for reading them. :

I agree with the above authors. Some other authors I've enjoyed are:

Mary Balogh - her "Simply" series and her "Slightly" series in particular
Catherine Anderson - I've really only read her Kendrick/Coulter series but enjoyed them. They do all follow the same formula. Really predictable but the men are of the sexy, protective cowboy sort. (very un-feminist of me I know)
Amanda Quick (aka Jayne Ann Krentz) - kind of hit or miss for me. Some I liked, some I didn't.
LaVyrle Spencer - Retired now. She wrote some historical and some contemporary.

Edging into Chick Lit, a bit, but:
  • Marian Keyes
  • Susan Elizabeth Phillips (my very favourite!)
  • Jill Mansell
  • Jennifer Weiner

I used to love Lavryle Spencer!

I love love love Judith McNaught. :
I got my sister hooked as well... Too bad I have absolutely no time to read right now, as I have about 5 of her books waiting for me.

My beloved mercilessly teases me about these books, but I can't help it. McNaught is really good!

Perfect is my favorite of hers.

For contemporary I love Rachel Gibson. I think she's the only author that I've ever read that I now will NOT bother to read the blurb on the back before getting the book. I like her stuff that much.

Do any of you do e-books? I just can't seem to get into that.

Jude Devereaux and Julie Garwood have long been my favorites. My sister got ME hooked on them when I was in high school.

My all time favorite guilty pleasure series is Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. Even though some of the sequels did not draw me in as much as the first one, they are still my tried and true comfort novels.
