Help me find a book for DH!

I am trying to find a book that DH will really like, but I don't know where to start. Here is what he likes: Left-wing politics, environmentalism, veganism, Eastern Spirituality, and other crunchy topics... both fiction and non-fiction.

He has a collection of older books, but I am hoping to find something more recent that he would like.

Suggestions?

What about Plan of Attack by Bob Woodward? There's an older fiction book by Edward Abbey called The Monkey Wrench Gang (I want to say it was written in the 80's).

I haven't heard of the first one.. I'll go look it up now. I'm not sure if he has read the Monkey Wrench Gang.. but I know we don't have it. Thanks! That might be a good book to get regardless if he has read it or not.

there's been a ton of good books on local eating, organics, and food issues in the last couple of years -- would he like something like Animal, Vegetable, Miracle or In Defense of Food?

I was thinking of Edward Abbey too! In the Eastern frame of mind, there's "Three Cups of Tea" (Mortenson), "The Heart of the World" (Baker) and for fiction there's "Shantaram" (Roberts). Check them out on Amazon and see if they look like good fits!

Have him rread "The Art Of Racing In the Rain" by Garth Stein. my dh loved it.

Oooh, Shantaram is a FANTASTIC recommendation for him. I read that this spring, and it totally blew me away. If he hasn't already read it, I can't second that recommendation strongly enough.

What about "Last Child in the Woods". It should hit on some of his interests and help out with parenting as well!

I just read a pretty good review of a new biography of John Muir:

A Passion for Nature: The Life of John Muir
, by Donald Worster

Actually, anything by Donald Worster (especially if he's never read anything by him). The man is a genius, and one of the most readable environmental historians out there. William Cronin is also excellent.
