My 3 year old recieved this as a birthday gift in August. I refuse to let them watch it. I love the movie, personally, but feel it is much too scary and violent for little ones. I think the first time I saw it I was 7 or 8 and remember being scared even then.

Thoughts? I'm thinking of getting rid of it altogether.

I was about 7 or 8 when it came out. I don't remember being scared. I think we went to the movies to see it.

you could watch it with out the kids and then decide.

My 3.5 year old loves this movie... yes, there are scary parts, but it has a happy ending.. my daughter tells me if it's scary and knows how to express all her emotions. She has never asked to turn it off, and insists on watching it, and all her movies, all the way through to the end. She likes this movie quite a bit, but not as much as Cars, Tinkerbell and The Last Unicorn..

I was thinking of a different movie. I was thinking of Oliver, it's a disney movie about a cat and dog.

i don't remember how old i was when i first saw it but i don't remember ever finding it scary. i do recall finding part of it really sad. i would preview it again w/o kids present and actively think about how my kids would interpret it. i would probably keep it even if i thought it was to much for a 3yr old (esp. if you like it) and let them watch it when they're older. also i would consider how what seem like negative things are resolved. kids movies always have happy endings but also (older movies especially IMO)try to teach something but it might be suited better for an older child-and sometimes it just goes over younger kids heads and they don't even notice anyways in summary i'd watch it again.

Maybe I will do that. I guess other things that bug me are the cigar smoking and the opening scene where everyone is "drunk". Just seems inappropriate...but maybe I'm just being silly about it. I dunno

I remember watching it in school when I was about in the 3rd grade and I found it sad and scary. Then again, I was a very sensitive child.
