Hooray for free toys!

I took a bunch of DS's toys down to a toy swap last night and today we went to pick out some new ones, and I am still in shock at what I picked up for FREE!!!

This by far was my biggest score. It is a stable that DS was all over as soon as he saw it. He is getting some animals for Christmas, so this is perfect!!! It has a few nicks in it, but the hinges are solid and the wood is very solid. So beautiful!

I found him this table top kitchen. It is not one I would have picked out, but it is a wooden one and it was free, so we are going to use it and I am going to keep an eye out at thrift stores and Craigslist for a free standing one. It is also going to be a Christmas gift for him.

This push toy with blocks in it will definitely be a hit too. He wanted to run all over the house with it. I think he can have this one now, as I don't want to completely bury him in toys on Christmas morning.

I found these fun stacking cardboard nesting blocks too
. I think he will get these now too. We have some wooden ones that he loves, but they can be dangerous when he knocks them over.

The pig puzzle is actually six puzzles in one if you flip the cubes over. He is still too little for it, so I think I will hold it until next Christmas. The animals and the box are a shape sorter that I may end up giving to a friend who has a 1 year old for Christmas too.

This is a set of 5 Sandra Boynton books.
I have been wanting to get these for DS forever, but couldn't justify buying them new. They are in relatively good shape, but I know he will love them. There is also a Melissa and Doug shape puzzle that he will definitely love. I am not sure if I will keep these for his birthday in March, or give them to him in a couple of weeks.

This is a felt food pyramid.
The food pieces stick onto the pyramid, but I figured the food would be great for his wooden kitchen. I am making him some food, but these will be a good stash to add to that won't really matter if he loses a piece or two.

Last but not least, I found two hats for dressup.
I don't normally give him plastic toys, but these hats were super cute and he loves to dress up. The box beside them is a floor puzzle for next Christmas or his 3rd birthday. All the pieces are there and it is really nice.

I feel like I just won the toy lottery today! I can't believe I was just able to walk out of the swap with all of these amazing toys! I was worried that it would really only be plastic broken junk, but there were some incredible toys there. There weren't really a ton of people, and everyone was super polite. Yay!!! :

I love the toy barn!

You got some amazing things at the toy swap. I wonder if we have any of those here?

Those are great! I've been wanting to put together a swap. How did you find out about the one you went to?

It was advertised in our local paper, but I actually found out about it from a friend who had read about it. This is the first year they have done it, and they are expecting to make it an annual thing around this time of year, which is perfect for the holidays.

The way it worked was on Friday, people could drop off toys all day. They took pretty much anything that was in decent condition except stuffed animals. They gave out vouchers to redeem for toys the next day for every toy you brought in. If you didn't want to come back, you could just drop toys and not take vouchers, and if you wanted toys and didn't have any to bring for trade, that was ok too. For the folks with the vouchers, the doors opened an hour earlier than for the people who didn't have them.

I was so worried that people would be lined up out the door when they opened the doors, but it really wasn't that busy at all, and I made a beeline for the wooden kitchen and stable. I was absolutely ecstatic!

I can't wait for next year. I am already looking at DS's toys and wondering what I can get rid of!

ETA: The toys that were leftover at the end of the swap today all went to social service agencies for kids that need them, so nothing was left without a home, which was great!

Wow, you got some great toys from the swap.

I would love to do a toy swap here. It sounds like the swap was great for everyone, clean out old toys, get new toys, and the extras were donated.

Wow, I can see why you are excited about those toys!

I organized a swap like that at our local drop-in centre a few years back for toys and clothes. Everything left at the end was donated...we got tons of stuff....

Is it bad that I have stayed up too late playing with DS's toys still?
