Frontier

I just placed my first order with Frontier- and now I have questions!

I didn't do the wholesale thing as I only really wanted to order Alum and can't find it locally. It seemed to me that they sell really different stuff on the regular website as compared to the wholesale site- am I wrong?

Thanks!

I'm sorry I don't know the answer to that. I've only ordered through co-ops, aka the wholesale side.

I am curious...what is alum?

It's used in pickling- although lots of folks say you don't need it to make pickles crisp. I do not pickle, but I have a dog that is digging to CHINA and I've read/heard that sprinkling alum around the border of the yard will absolutely stop her in her little digging tracks. Apparently it tastes horrible!

A word of warning to other mamas- it's also somewhat toxic and I saw a thing on google about someone dying from ingesting 30 g of alum. My DP said he can't imagine how someone could unintentionally eat that...

Hopefully this will fix her little red wagon! She's an 11-ish y/o little digging demon. She's always been a digger and has a major predatory instinct when it comes to "vermin". She's killed numerous rats and gophers and birds- last week she killed a raccoon! She's tunneled all over the yard following gopher holes- sigh. Recently she's been tunneling under the foundation of the house and out of the yard!

We rent and so making major changes to the property (like a dog run or rebar buried around the border of the yard) aren't exciting to us. I'd rather not use the electric dog collar thing and chaining her seems so inhuman- as does sticking her in a car for hours on end while we're gone from the house. I don't think she's digging from boredom- she's got a partner in crime to hang out with, toys (although she's never been interested in them), a large yard, etc. I think she is a mix of 4 breeds all selectively bred for centuries to dig and kill vermin- resulting in my little hellion!

Ahem- so yeah, alum is used for pickling. Usually. Lol.

I order from the wholesale website because I have an acct. I used to run a pretty regular frontier coop order on here before we stopped hosting coops. Now I still order for a few mdc mamas and local people.

If you do wholesale, its $250 at least. You also get free overnight shipping with that order. I myself have ordered $250 worth of stuff but lately with regular ordering, I really dont need $250 worth of stuff, thus the reason to order with others.

I buy bulk things on the wholesale, detergants, spices, teas, soaps etc. Most of the stuff is cheaper this way than at whole foods but I also order for long haul meaning for the next 60 days or so.

I just happened to run across this... is there a tips thread for Frontier.... for products people, love recommend, or wouldn't recommend??? etc.

I'm overwhelmed by the catalog size at times, but weeding through it.

BTW, there's so many different choices for alum when I did a search, but they just made it easier for people to see the wholesale catalog> https://wholesale.frontiercoop.com/

(and by just, I think in the last week)

I think there was a thread in the finding your tribe section about frontier favorites -- or maybe it was in the natural living section -- I've read it but forgot where it is exactly located.

I did notice that you have to be careful when using the search feature- only the first couple of results are actually alum!
