DD is almost 3 now and for the past two months has only nursed once a day - at night, to help her relax before falling asleep. Sometimes she falls asleep while nursing, sometimes not. As time goes on, we have more frequent days when she doesn't nurse at all. I have no problem with her weaning pace, and would happily continue this gradual decline as long as she needs to. The problem is, lately there are some nights when I simply cannot let her nurse. It feels like someone is driving a sewing needle through my nipple, to be too blunt about it. I'm sure some of you out there have experienced this, unfortunately. It's especially painful on my left side, and I have bleeding cracks (for the first time in our nursing career together). Is this because she's older and bigger, and therefore sucks like a Hoover instead of a car vac? Is it a latch gone lazy? Poor thing, she's very empathetic and understanding when I suck in my breath and go "owowowowowoOW!!!" She lets go immediately and pats my boob and says, "Mommy, I'm sorry to hurt your nursie."
:
Anyway.....anybody else? Theories? I'm just kind of baffled as to why this is happening now, as opposed to when she was nursing 12 times a day.

Hope you feel better soon!
