Milo and Otis

In defense of the person who gifted us with the movie mentioned in my other thread, they also gave us this one, which the kids LOVE, and I love it too : My three year old laughs at Milo when he's floating away in the box and says "Bye Milo!!!!!" (But the 2yr old says "Oh no!!! Milo's in the box!" and every other time Milo gets into trouble. I think he was a little scared by the seagull-pecking scene!)

Anyone else out there like this movie?

Oh, and out of curiosity where might the original Japanese version be found?

My daughter loves this movie as well. Her favorite part is when Milo gets stranded and is swimming back with his mom..and the part where they were playing hide and seek and he was sneezing lol. She cracks up so hard!

IDK where a japanese version can be found, though, sorry.

My sister and I loved this movie when we were little:. DS is too young for movies but I'm going to have to get this for my niece for Christmas-- I forgot all about this movie, my sister will love watching this with her DD.

We love this movie too! I had forgotten how much I enjoyed it, but I grabbed it on sale for $3 over the summer. My four year old cracks up at all the antics in the beginning, especially the hide-and-seek bit.

we LOVE this movie too! It's one of the few that both of my kiddos will sit through together and laugh, just full on, sweet belly laughs! My 5 yo loves the part where Milo is in the dresser and teasing the bear. It's a great film.

"Which drawer has the cat?" said in that British way that makes it so much funnier

We had an orange tabby like Milo that we had to re-home when we went to Arizona My kids would have loved him. I cant decide which one they like better, though! They'd probably be just as thrilled with a little Pug.

my little sister loves this movie very much

My brother made me buy this for him for his 21st birthday when it came out on dvd. We loved it as kids!! I love the narration...my favorite part is the fox that sings. I also just love that every possibly animal is in this movie.
Can't wait til I have my own kids to show this movie to. For now, I just lend the dvd out frequently to kids I know and they've all loved it.
I'd love to see the original Japanese version, but I'm not sure it's readily available. Apparently, that version is longer and has some scarier scenes (i.e. like Milo getting pecked by the seagulls and falling off the cliff).

Milo and Otis is available to 'watch instantly' on Netflix. The reviews there on the video aren't as nice. Most say something like it's too boring. I loved this movie growing up! I'm glad some children don't need Pixar to make a movie good!

It was my favorite growing up and my kids LOVE it.
However, *I* can't help but wonder about how many cats were hurt during filming- especially during the being pecked by seagulls/thrown off a cliff scene. Milo does not look happy!

OK, I'll be the lone dissenter here and share that my children were terrified during this movie. Especially my super sensitive 6 year old. She cried horribly throughout all the parts where the Milo was in real peril, traumatized at the thought of his death or injury. For her (and her 3 year old sister) the worst was that the animals acting in the film are real, not simply drawings or pictures. I, too, wondered at the amount of scary scenes being appropriate for young children. I also hated the stuff about the animals being parents and sticking around the females being "dads" after they met with the females and had babies.... talk about reinforcing crazy weird anthropomorphic values on our pets.

But as far as I can tell, we are the only family that feel so strongly about the movie. And I love scary movies, and my 3yo loves scary stories. Go figure!

I don't honestly think they threw a real cat off the cliff. It was probably a stuffed cat. But again, this was a Japanese film, so who knows what the rules are over there regarding animal treatment on the set.
