Help me get my CLO down

I just gag and gag and then can't make myself take it the next day. I put it in a dropper right by my throat and plug my nose and then follow it by some crystalized ginger and OH MY WORD. It still sucks. Help! I tried putting it in a smoothie but I could totally SMELL it. Eek. It doesn't help that I'm pretty newly pregnant. But I'm just now starting to take it (was doing capsules... should have continued.. trying to save money.

Ive heard chasing it with something acidic helps (i plan to try that, i have the unflavored and while the smell doesnt bother me, the aftertaste does).

Try chasing it with lemonade or just pure lemon juice.

Congrats on the new pregnancy!

I didn't have any CLO in the first trimester and it's still an iffy thing. I wouldn't force it if it's not working.

You could try putting the CLO in 2oz or so of orange juice or lemonade. Then follow with a few oz of just juice as a chaser. And maybe eat some bread. That's how I originally got myself to take it. (Actually, iirc, my first bottle, I'd have a shortbread cookie... )

I second the juice suggestion. I use one of those little pinch-bowls that hold a couple ounces, put some juice in then my CLO on top. I can down it in one or two swallows and because the CLO floats on top, I don't taste it. And I have a real problem with CLO because of an unfortunate barfing incident following some halibut liver oil my mom made me take when I was already sick when I was little... I will spare you details, but I haven't been able to taste fish oil without it activating my gag reflex since then. But in juice, it's fine.

We take it with OJ. I'll take a little sip of OJ, keep it in my mouth, then put the CLO in my mouth and drink it together. Then I chase with plain OJ. It's the only way I can get it down.

Mixing it all together wouldn't work for me, I'd be able to smell and taste it in there. I need the plain OJ as a chaser to wash my mouth out.

Ugh, I can't imagine taking the liquid. The smell of the capsules is soooo bad. I hope you find a solution.

I am new to this all, and maybe I've gotten a bad type of CLO or something? but the lady at the HFS told me about the Barleans smoothie CLO..it is just like taking a spoonful of lemon pudding or pie filling. yummy. no hint of fish at all, and no repeats or anything.
Yummy.
I never thought I'd like any fish oil.....

Hmmm... what are the ingredients? I have the high vitamin brand that I got at a traditional foods warehouse. I bought some once at the co-op and looked and it had SOYBEAN OIL in it. AHHH! Not cool.

I can do mine easily if I chase it with a spoonful of apricot jam. That's not very TF, is it?

We all take ours with juice. My DS will drink as much as I will give him He usually gets 1/2tsp only with about 5oz of a variety of juices. I pour it on top of about an ounce of juice for me and DH and we take it like a shot. Down the hatch in one straight line and the only thing I taste is the cinnamon flavor with a hint of whatever juice I use. I'm taking 2tsp and DH is taking 1 and we don't have any problems getting it down like this. If I were pregnant that might be different...

Okay, I've taken one dose so far, so I can't be an expert yet. I got Garden of Life lemon-mint (wanted to start ASAP, and that was the best brand available locally). I tried shooting it out of a shot glass, but the oiliness made it have an awful mouth feel, plus hard to get it all in one fell swoop. I poured the remainder on a spoon and put it way back in my mouth before swallowing. Then I chased it with a piece of xylitol gum (not sure how TF that is, but it's got to be a little better than jam? ). So far, so good. If I have fishy burps (my least favorite part of my omega-3 pill experiences in the past), I will let you know.
