I had some hip pain at the end of the pregnancy - mostly it felt like they were coming apart! During labor, I was liking hands and knees to help bring Nora down, and my doula and hubby had to literally push my hips together to get me through contractions because it felt like my whole pelvis was just going to fall apart. I'm still sore, mostly during long side-lying nursing sessions. I think my joints are starting to knit back together as my body comes back, but should I consider PT or chiro to help with the pain? Which one would be more beneficial because my insurance covers either?

I would see a chiro just to get an evaluation of what's going on.

Teff-I can't remember how old Nora is. The days all run together. I had horrid hip pain too, although I didn't notice it much during labor as Charlie didn't actually come down until 20 minutes before he was born (stayed at -3 station until I started pushing, only pushed for 18 minutes according to my medical records).
He's 2 weeks plus 2 days and the pain is much much better on it's own. If you know your chiro, then go with them. Either way, I'd go with the gentlest treatment (I've known one chiro who was a bit rough). Some of it may just be time.

I actually just called a friend who is an experienced PT and she gave me some ideas, including wrapping my pelvis or getting a pelvic belt until everything comes back together. She also said that I should lay on my back with pillows under my hips for a few minutes every couple of hours to help get everything to shift back and take pressure off of my hips.
Nora is 6 days old.
Everything is harder to put back together with the second baby, isn't it?!?!

This third time has been the roughest for me with the hip pain, but the easiest for getting my "body" back. I only gained 20 pounds, and I'm already 5 pounds under my prepregnancy weight.
Each pregnancy is so unique!

i don't know exactly, but i agree with a pp...go with what ever could be gentler? i had hip pain after pushing my son out. it felt like it literally came dislocated during pushing. took a good 2 weeks or so, but eventually it did knit back together okay. for me personally it takes my body a bit longer with each child to "get back"...not in the weight issue, but int he general pain/healing issue. it took me 2 weeks before i could go up my stairs after my 3rd birth and not have a significant increase in lochia. (maybe part of it is having other little ones taking so much from me as well?) I'm not looking forward to after this 4th birth, and dh can't take as much time off as he did with the others.

I got one of those abdominal bands for c-sections and it's helping a bit. I'll update after I've been wearing it for longer than an hour!
