Got the bonus, spent the bonus. Sigh.

I realize that this is not much of a complaint really, honestly. But I was getting a decent-sized bonus from work and was really excited about it... was going to splurge on holiday presents, pay off a cc, make an extra mortgage payment. Instead the clutch on my car started to go, and I had to get that replaced instead. The paycheck came in and went out on the same day. So much for my bonus, for extra-good presents and other fun things. Sigh. At least my car is running well again. As I said, I know it's nothing compared to real problem, but I've been looking forward to it since the end of August. This is the second over-$1000 repair this year, too...

Disappointing for sure, but better than acquiring more debt. Just think how much worse you might feel if that check didn't come when it did.

Well since the bonus was just that, a bonus it shouldn't feel like you lost out on extra money for gifts and stuff,though I'm sure it does. If you hadn't gotten the bonus right now when your car decided it needed repairs then you'd really be out a lot of money. At least you did something useful and needed with the money.

You're both right, of course. It's just that I'd been making plans for the cash for awhile, and it's so rare that extra money comes in. I mean it definitely beats taking the money from savings, which is what I would have done otherwise. Just, you know, sometimes you think you're actually going to get ahead a little bit, and breaking even feels like a setback. Ah well, maybe there will be a bonus next quarter too... but I kinda doubt it.

Thanks for helping me with the perspective, I appreciate it. As I said, it's not a genuine complaint, just a little bitchy whine really.
