I have an infection in my varicose vein and since i am allergic to penicillin, they prescribed doxycycline. my son is almost and still nurses quite a bit. i'm concerned about his teeth becoming discolored.
Does anyone have experience with this?
Anyone have "the breast feeding book" by dr. sears who can check on this antibiotic for me?
thanks!

Hale's has a site (he did the book on medications and mother's milk) that might have it. Or maybe try the regular Breastfeeding forum since you may get more views there... Good luck! I've taken a ton of abx while nursing, but not that one...

I took doxycylene while nursing my 2 yo. I checked with the lactation consultant and she said that since it was a toddler and I was only taking it for 5 days, that it would be fine. Long term use is not recommended. It is a L3 drug, so check out the risks before you decide.

Go to amazon and check out "Medications and Mothers Milk" by Hale. You can use the tool to search inside the book for Doxycycline and it has all the info there.

I took it for 10 days back in September. Asheby is allergic to penicillin also. My NP looked it up and said it was ok.

BUT, I felt SO awful while taking it. It completely dried my body out. My intestines ached. Ugh.
