Anyone successfully get doula services reimbursed by either insurance or FSA?

I think your doula has to have medical codes for when they charge you. Some insurance will cover it, but of course it has to be coded right and you'd pay and then get file and get reimbursed. I'm not sure about FSA, I'd have to look over the list. Again, you'd have to have paperwork to submit for it to show it was a medical visit etc.

I have had clients get reimbursed from their FSA in the past, and as a PP stated, you need to have the forms with the correct diagnostic codes on it. Your doula can download these forms from the DONA International website. www.dona.org, even if she is not a DONA certfied doula.

Insurance is a bit trickier, and the client may have to go through the appeals process when the claim is initially denied, but I have heard that it has worked in the past.

I'd be very surprised if insurance would cover it but we did get it reimbursed from our FSA.

You can only deduct things like that (afaik) if your medical bills for the year equal so much % of your income.

Thanks all. Doula is a DONA trainer, plus her non-doula business is providing at home care for the elderly, so she knows her way around insurance billing.

(I keep forgetting to ask her when I see her for yoga (she's also our yoga instructor... woman of many hats she is!))
