Hi,
I've recently gotten into sewing diapers and diaper covers, and I just made my first PUL diaper cover last night, and it went together REALLY easily! I won't take a picture, and my baby isn't born yet to see if it is successful at catching leaks, but it looks great, and I'm really excited! I may go overboard with making diaper supplies, b/c I want to try the fleece ones too ... Perhaps someday I'll get to the natural fibre ones--for now I'm just trying to make cute useable ones!

I was trying to figure out what to use for binding--I used self-fabric that I cut in strips the stretchiest way (which wasn't the bias), and I sewed the elastics directly to the PUL before I bound the whole thing! Maybe I'll end up doing things in another order, but this worked for now.

:thumb OHHHHHH sewing diapers/cover is soooooo adicting....FOE aka fold over elastic or some places call it stretch ribbon works great for diaper covers and is a LOT less work esp. since you don't need to use extra elastic with it (just stretch it as you sew in the places you wish for the elastic to be...legs back tummy). If you are using touchtape I suggest Sulky 2000 tempory adhesive spray to lightly mist the touch tape back and hold it in place while you sew it on w/o it moving all over. Happy sewing :D

I second the FOE, most WAHM's use 7/8-1" width FOE for diaper covers, and the great thing is you can usually dye it to match whatever you're making :D

If you decide to sew some fleece, Malden Mills (which has the best fleece for diapers) also has stretch binding (www.maldenmillsstore.com) in their regular store under Notions. It is very gentle on the legs.

I don't know what "touchtape" is--I just sewed soft-stretch elastic directly to the diaper covers, then I sewed the PUL strips over the top. I am thinking I will get some 1 mm PUL by the yard just to use for the strip binding, but I also might try the fleece binding. I didn't have any trouble AT ALL sewing the binding to the PUL--all I did was take a little bit at a time, since you can't pin to the PUL or it will leak.

Plus, I don't have a baby yet so I can't say X works and Y doesn't. Dd just started pottying a few weeks ago, and I wasn't going to make big ones anyhow (well, until next baby is big) ...
I'm going to try swimwear elastic next time.

Thanks for the comments!
