DD has had some strange poop, and I am wondering if it is allergy related or yeast related. Her poop is "sandy" looking to me. It's kind of grainy, and is harder to wipe off. I talked to peds about it before, but it went away, so we didn't pursue it any further. At the time, he mentioned Celiacs disease, and said that in some cases it can present with constipation (a big issue for DD) instead of diarrhea. He also said that since she was growing well, he was unconcerned - we could do a test, but it is not that accurate w/out a biopsy. They did take a stool sample and look for blood (found none) but b/c it was so firm they couldn't run any other tests on it.

So now here we are again a few months later. Weird, sandy looking, very stinky poop. Right now she is taking Nystatin for thrush and a vaginal yeast infection, so I am wondering... could this just be yeast die-off? She struggles with yeast a lot (b/c of daily abx), so it might make sense. I just don't know enough to figure it out. :bag:

Any suggest? Do you think it might be yeast related, or should we be looking in another direction? What would your course of action (if any) be?

I think I've heard of sandy poop as an oxalate-related problem. Oxalates are a chemical in some foods, and some people don't deal with them well (there's stuff you can do to improve your ability to deal with them and eat them normally again). A lot of dark green leafy stuff is high in oxalates, I'm sure other stuff but I don't know the list well. Anything ring a bell there? Our yeasty poop looks different, but my daughter's more prone to squishy poop than hard, so I may not be a good one to judge.

According to this, yes, it could be yeast related:

Thanks for both of these suggestions. I spent a lot of the day reading about oxalates. Very interesting stuff. I'm still hoping it is yeasties, but a lot of the info rang true about the oxalates especially with her leaky gut and kidney issues.

Thanks for the great link! This one is a lot more detailed than the one I had found. I think I will start doing another food diary to see if I can pinpoint when/how it starts.
