My mother got me the Humanity Family Bed co-sleeping device for Christmas. :love
I noticed that it has a tag on it that says "User recognizes and accepts risks associated with Co-sleeping." :angry
I'm wondering, are they required by law to put a tag on their product that carries this warning? I think crib manufacturers should have to put tags on cribs that say "User recognizes and accepts risks associated with crib sleeping" !!

what is this?
Seems to me just be a butt-covering statement. kinda like :not intended as sleepware. BTW I agree re: warning on cribs.

Out of curiosity....
do you like the humanity family bed? we are thinking of getting one, but i'm just wondering if people like it. I think we will. It seems like a good idea, but feed back is always good. I'd hate to be dissapointed.

well, my ex ped. (even though he understood 80% of the world co-sleeps)
asked me if I was aware of the risks. I looked at him, rolled my eyes and asked him if he was going to ask me if I was aware of the crib sleeping risks too.
I think they have to because of "liability". In case you roll over your child, come back to the doc, and sue him for not telling you about the risks.

I'm sure its b/c they've been sued before. :shrug
There's stupid warnings all over stuff we own baby or otherwise. Some fall in the "duh!" category & some in the "you've got to kidding" cat.
Like it or not ~ most "professionals/experts" still view co-sleeping as more dangerous than crib sleeping. Really, the "dangers" are just different.

I am so annoyed right now re co-sleeping ignorance. Someone I know was in the hospital with her new baby and the baby's dad was lying in the daybed cuddling him on his chest. Evidently a nurse walked in and practically yelled, "Make sure you do NOT sleep with that baby!!" Ugh. She had a hard time overall and absolutely no support on anything. I would really like to throttle those L&D/PP workers.
Anyway, whew. Was that off-topic or what? I just wanted to say that these liability-related warnings crack me up sometimes when they're as dumb as (on a frozen pizza box we had) "Cook before eating." Um, duh. I agree that cribs should definitely be required to have them, though. It's political rather than science based that they don't.
