"The other thing I just wanted to add that I thought was kind of funny in an ironic way...a friend of mine who doesn't have a child and knows nothing about sleep issues or AP happened to mention that she works with Dr. Ferber's son. She said that he says that the whole family has terrible insomnia and they think it is really weird that their dad got so famous regarding infant sleep since they have had insomnia problems since childhood."
This was a post from a local AP mom's group. I thought it was hysterical that the whole Ferber family has insomnia. People follow his ideas on getting their kids to bed, but he can't even get his own kids to bed LOL.
P.S. not laughing at his family's lack of sleep :) but just the idea that he's considered by some to be an "expert" in this area but struggles with sleep issues with his own family

Wait. . .
does this mean that "ferberizing" your child is not a good long term solution?!? :duh :LOL
Thanks for this tidbit, this will be useful next time someone is advocating the Ferber method!

I admit it, I get more than a little kick out of this tidbit of information. :D
It also gave me cause to wonder. I was left to CIO as a babe and I've suffered insomnia on and off my whole life. Hm????
Thanks for sharing...

You do realize Ferber recanted a few years ago in “The New Yorker”. He wished he never wrote the book.
He actually co-sleep until his children were about six months.
I would also be leary of CIO = insomina. It is just to broad.

I knew he had "recanted" but I hadn't heard about him co-sleeping himself or his families sleep problems. Does anyone have any links?
Thanks in advance,
Kay

Yes, thanks for posting it.
QUOTE FROM THE ARTICLE:
""But it says here in your book..." I read him two sentences I had read to my wife during one of our 2 A.M. showdowns: "Although taking your child into bed with you for a night or two may be reasonable if he is ill or very upset about something, for the most part this is not a good idea." And, "Sleeping alone is an important part of his learning to be able to separate from you without anxiety and to see himself as an independent individual."
"I wish I hadn't written those sentences," Ferber replied. "That came out of some of the existing literature. It is a blanket statement that is just not right. There's plenty of examples of co-sleeping where it works out just fine. My feeling now is that children can sleep with or without their parents. What's really important is that the parents work out what they want to do."
