Does anyone know if you can get PPD when your youngest is 13 months old? Or is it just plain depression?

I guess it depends whether or not you've had PPD symptoms all along or if it's a new thing. Either way, you are welcome here!
Most literature says that PPD can occur anytime between birth and one year of age, but some says up to age two. Mine began around my son's first birthday, but was undiagnosed until a few weeks before his second birthday (crappy doctor, not because I didn't know something was wrong:rolleyes: ) so my diagnosis was "clinical depression."
All in all, it doesn't really matter what the diagnosis is as it is basically the same disease and is treated through the same means. Call it whatever you are most comfortable with. One of the things I love about my psychiatrist is that he says that "depression" is really a bad word for what the illness is, since not everyone feels "depressed." I agree. I wasn't every "depressed" and that's what made it so hard to diagnose in me. Of course, I had a doctor who just didn't care. Lovely, huh.

I wasn't sure what was going on. I am not really comfortable with telling anybody in the medical field I am depressed I don't what anyone to think I am a bad mom or anything, but right after DS's first birthday I noticed my sadness just not going away. Now on to my next mission...herbal remedies!:D

Depression hit me full force when my DD was about 18 months old. I feel that it was (is) PPD, even though it occurred later than the usual onset. I think it might have set in a little sooner had I not used every ounce of energy trying to stave it off and to pretend through gritted teeth that everything was hunky-dory. Which only led me to a bigger crash in the end!
Hang in there and get help. It will get better!
Warmly,
Carol
