Our baby isn't due until May, but we are trying to research those things we aren't sure about earlier.

We will be co-sleeping with our baby and plan to sidecar the crib.
We realize that the little one will end up on our mattress a lot (maybe full time as our confidence increases) and we need a mattress cover.

We can't afford the wool ones (nice, though). What are people using in the not so expensive rhealm. We realize that waterproof means some kind of plastic (if not wool), but prefer one that doesn't smell too strong or feel weird to sleep on.

Can you recommend particular brands?
Where did you get yours?
Any information is greatly appreciated.

We bought a 100% cotton mattress pad and then put a "pee pad" that we got from a hospital supply store in the middle where the baby sleeps. It is about 4 feet square and works great, since we don't have to take off the mattress pad to wash it.

hth :)

You might also want to look at Garnet Hill. I think it is www.Garnethill.com. THey are a great natural fibers catalog. We bought a cover for our king from them. Have never used it. We just ended up using all the "chucks" pads we gently lifted (and it was a lot of them) from the hospital. :jaw

I got one at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. It was $60.00. It has a thick, all cotton cover which makes the water resistant/plastic part underneath not crinkly or hot.
