Help! We are co-sleeping with out 13 month old and she is waking frequently ( 3-4 times per night ) It seems like she is very gassy when she wakes up. In the morning she often has a BM and through out the night will occassionally settle if she manages to pass some gas. This is unusal though, normally I have to BF her back to sleep. We are hoping to nightwean soon, but I'm concerned about her comfort.

Anyone with similar issues:confused:

ds has is gassy every now and then....
give her some fennelseed or chamomille tea before bedtime, that is our remedy and works pretty well.
what do you feed her before bedtime? just breastmilk?
another thing i do with ds when he's uncomfortable at night, i face him away from him and stroke his belly. me breathing on his head helps calming him down and the massaging reliefs tummy-aches.

Thanks Annika! I'll try that....in what form do you give the fennelseed??
Before bed she has a snack, usually dry cereal or crackers, occassionally a home baked muffin. I am still breastfeeding to get her to go to sleep....another habit I'm hoping to change soon. I figure if I can night wean her first then maybe I can get her to go to sleep without my breast.

i give ds fennelseed tea, also has ginger in it. not sure where you would get it in the US, i get my good stuff from germany, home sweet home, lol.
you could try your health food store...
ds had issues once with some homemade bread that i gave him for dinner. he woke up screaming, with a rockhard belly. and that had never happend before. a nurse on-call told us sometimes their tummies can't digest certain types of flour. could it be the muffins??? maybe try giving her a banana for snack.
hope it gets better!

Another big thanks Annika!

We have been giving chamomille and fennelseed tea regularily and it seems to be helping. DD is more receptive to the chamomille right now so we use that more often. I also tried your suggestion of cuddling and rubbing her tummy. It worked like a charm! I had tried just a tummy rub before but the cuddling with the breathing seems to really work.

We are now successfully embarking on the night weaning process and it is going very well, I think knowing that she isn't in any gas pain eases my mind a lot!

Thanks again!
