our DD is 20 days old, and she grunts, snorts, and coos all night long!! she doesn't wake up, or cry, she just makes these noises in her sleep. and it's a deep sleep b/c i can move her around, try to BF her, and she just sleeps.

this morning, DP said we may need to move her to the crib b/c she kept him up all night making noise!! :eek I can't beleive he would even suggest that.

should i point out that HIS snoring keeps ME awake all night? It's really hard to get to back to sleep after a 30 minute feeding when ou have a chain saw next to you in bed, ykwim? and it's hard for me to accept that her little noises are keeping him up when i can sleep through that and not through his snoring.

I do wake up when she makes these gasping sounds. It scared me lastnight, she sounded like she was choking, but she was fine, and she was not happy that i woke her up to make sure she was breathing ok.

I know she's breathing fine, but is there anything i can do to get her to be a bit more quiet so i don't have to move her?

christy, get dh some earplugs! i'm serious. if you're doing most of the nighttime parenting (and i guess you probably are since you're nursing) then he doesn't need to listen for her like you do.

our new bean is pretty noisy, too, but she rarely wakes up dh -- only if she really squawks which she certainly does, but not ususally at night. mostly she makes baby elephant noises and squeaky door noises and other little grunts and growls.

hope y'all can work it out. he might get used to it in a little bit anyway.

oh, btw, i've heard those breathe right nasal strips really do wonders for snorers...

Earplugs was my first thought, too. My DP wears them nearly every night when rocking our son to sleep (he cries like the dickens for 5-10 minutes, then passes out. But he won't go to sleep without being rocked like this at night - unless I nurse him down, of course). We have a huge box of them ("Howard Leigh Pre-Shaped Foam Ear Plugs, noise reduction rating 33 decibels" - my DP is a sound guy at live events and in the studio. So these are even tax-deductible for us!).

Good luck.

P.S. As a side note, in case it's important: While awake you can still hear stuff even with the earplugs. In case you have worries about also blocking out something important in an emergency situation.

well, DD had awful gas lastnight, so she was screaming when she wasn't nursing...I just got up and left the room with her so DP could sleep. I don't think she and I got to sleep until about 5am. Then we were up at 9am. She's napping now :)

we talked a little bit about keeping her in the room, and he wants her to stay just as much as I do, so I guess he's just going to get used to her little grunts and coos.

Thanks everyone for all your insight. OH, and we've used the breathright strips in the past. Usually, it ends up falling off his nose and sticking to the pillow or it somehow ends up somewhere in the bed. Oh well. his snoring doesn't bother me usually, b/c i'm asleep before he starts snoring, but when i wake up to nurse DD, I can't go back to sleep b/c he's already sawing away with his chainsaw.

going to take a nap now :zzz :) thanks agian for all your help!

glad to hear it christy.

fwiw, i've used the breathe right strips myself when i've had trouble breathing, but dh never has. i sometimes have the same trouble you do with his snoring and getting back to sleep but i ususally just elbow him til he turns on his side and all is good.
