Our sleep history with Sophie has been roughly this: She was in a basket beside our bed until about 3-4 months, then the basket went in her crib for a few weeks, then no basket and she was in her crib. She slept well in her crib next door to us (we have a teeny house), until she started teeting at 7 months. We tried to bring her in bed with us, but as this didn't seem to help her any we put her in her crib and sat with her.

At about 13 months she had some stranger anxiety and I would lay on the floor next to her crib and talk to her. This got tired very quickly so we brought in a mattress and it's still there if she wants company. Either of us is fine to sleep in her room with her, although this doesn't happen much, about once a week on average. She is 29 months and loves her bed. It is her special place. She sleeps just like her dad; happy.

In our room is a queen bed, but dh is a big guy and I am not tiny either. We fill the bed. So, we have a cosleeper for this babe, and leg adjusters so that it can be pretty much level with our bed.

We'll probably do this until babe needs to be in a crib, and then depending on waking patterns the crib will be in our room or the two kidlets will be together.

How's my plan? Any advice for successful cosleeping? One thing I was wondering is if Sophie sees the baby sleeping with us, she might want to as well. Of course we would do this, but given how fond she is of her bed, it might pass quickly.

Any help would be much appreciated, particularly about night nursing, I didn't bf Sophie.

Thanks,

Jen

I also think what works for you- will work for you- KWIM?

But I will just tell you what I did with DD #1 (because I only have one!) lol

We first had a full bed and we are short folks but kinda chubby, so the bed was small for us too- anyway... We pushed the bed up against the wall and Rainey slept next to the wall and me. It worked out fine- the first month or so I worried because she couldnt move well, but then I kept thinking- this is the safest place for her- get over it! Then we got a full and a twin and moved them up all against the wall this was great because Rainey then had her own space and when I would move it didnt wake her up. But, yet again it changed :crying we then went to a futon- I loved it. It was tight sleeping but we put it right on the floor and I never worried about Rainey falling off or anything. We then moved across country and my parents set up a queen bed for us with a frame and box spring- after Rainey fell off of it 3 time in one day onto the hardwood floor the box spring left theroom and our bed is now on the floor! It is working out just fine- better than the full.

If you can I would say get a twin and put it up to your bed already so then your DD#1 can come in if she needs too and there is still tons of room.

Also- my Ped told me his friend (also a doc) co/sleeps (as does my doc!!!) anyway, his friend put 2 kings together and all 4 of their kids sleep in the room with them. But you have to have a big house to have 2 kings in one room- I guess that is why he is a doc! :LOL

Also Iwent to look at this house one time and the people co/slept and they had a king with a twin for their son up against their bed.

Just some ideas!

Well, I'm very jealous of having two kings in one room! I'd love one king, but our tiny house is too small to fit the mattress up the stairs!

So, maybe a twin then, although our room is pretty full. I'd like to put a double in dd's room. If she wants company I can sleep in there, or dh I guess if the bf goes well.

It's probably not going to come up, but I'm so aware that dd's life is going to be disrupted, I want to make it as easy as possible for her!

Thanks for the support. this is new for us :)
