Any other runners in this DDC? I love to run, and just completed a half marathon before I got pregnant. I didn't run during my first pregnancy out of a combination of nervousness and laziness- but I heard its usually ok. I'd like to keep up an easy 3-4 miles 3-4 times a week for as long as possible. Anyone BTDT?
TIA,
Lisa

I do not run but I love to work out on the elliptical and bike :) I still go about 45 minutes a day! I heard as long as you did it before pregnancy and you don't get too overheated or high of a heart rate then it's fine :)

I just ran my first 5K last Friday! I've tried twice to run since and I'm just so freaking tired, I can't go more than 20 minutes on the treadmill. :(

I love to run with my DD in the jogger. Where we live is pretty cool- like high of mid-50's most days. I'm going to try to keep it up this pregnancy. Last time I worked out in the A/C gym in our building in Chicago. I was too scared to run. I was scared to do a lot of stuff- hope this will be different this time around!

I quit running as I was told that the jarring could be bad for our baby. And I am a heavy runner. I've switched to long walks at a quick pace, much to my puppy's joy.

i'm with bhadstep. i also heard that the bouncing could be bad. i also ran outside and read that the increase in body temp could be damaging as well.

that said, if i lived in a cooler climate and was a little more in shape (i get pretty huffy-puffy when i run, and my heart rate gets so high it's considered high-impact for me), i would probably continue. i've been lazy the past week, but am going to start walking again tomorrow.

Actually, running through a healthy pregnancy is just fine. There is an excellent book out called Exercising Through Your Pregnancy by Dr James Clapp. Includes clinical studies and information about the body's biophysical changes during pregnancy. He considers a healthy pregnancy a 'normal' body state, and concludes that with a few exceptions (bleeding, multiples, etc.) there is no reason to stop running during pregnancy.

I've run through previous pregnancies and will run through this one, listening to my body, and with confidence in all it can do, this time as well.

I think listening to your body is key. I am a runner and a swimmer and going out and running right now would make me fall over dead! It reaches around 100 degrees each day here! I tried to go running at the beginning of the pregnancy and was so hot and short of breath it was more frustrating than satisfying. So I have taken to the pool. Plus, running in the pool is great cardio and not as much jolting. I will say that I have started to notice a difference in my swimming stroke, its small but I can tell the little peanut is growing in there! I really want to be active and healthy this pregnancy and I just feel better when I exercise. My m/s has down graded to just low grade all day nausea and gagging so I feel like I can work out again! Anybody really short of breath? I find that it gets better after about 10 min of working out, don't know if that is just me?

I am a runner also...I did a half marathon 10 months ago and have been running 3-4 miles 2-3 times a week since (would like to do more...)
I have slowed down my pace since being pregnant (just so tired), but am still getting out there about twice a week. I found the other day it actually helped me fight the nausea. I hope to keep going as long as possible, both previous pregnancies I have had to stop at around 32-34 weeks (it just didn't feel right).
Yesterday I ran with my friend (who doesn't know I am p/g) and we did our normal circuit, but we ran/walked (she is recovering from a cold). It was perfect!
I am looking forward to getting more energy soon...
