We recently bought a mattress with a memory foam top. DH loves the mattress, but the off gasing is so bad we can't use it.

We've had the mattress for three days. It was manufacured less than a week ago. The floor models at the store did not bother either of us. The floor models were relatively new, but the store couldn't tell us how new.

We want to keep this matrress because it is so firm. I'm wondering if anybody has experience with this and can suggest how long this off gasing is going to last.

Take everything off of it and let it set in the room for as long as you can. If that just means taking the sheets off during the day, then do it. Leave your windows open or if you have an air cleaner put that in the room.

It should be pretty much over by now... maybe another day or two. I have asthma and new mattresses really bother me for the first couple of days, then I'm fine.

The really bad stuff that's making you feel ill? Could be a week, could be more. But even once it's no longer at a level to make you feel ill, it's still doing it.

Have you researched memory foam? It's the most toxic mattress out there. I wish it wasn't because it's so comfy!!!!

We just got rid of one last year. It was SO comfy.... for about a year. It only smelled for about a week though.

Read the discussion that 'phatchristy' gave.. on there someone gave a link to
www.chem-tox.com It lists MANY people begin to have health issues come.. and then go away as soon as the mattress is gone.

You never know what it could bring for your life. I encourage you to return if you can. It could effect your baby while your pregnant too, especially with the mattress being new.

I found out the hazards last year and am about to get rid of our memory foam mattress also! Especially as I've read more and don't want these chemicals, that should not be in our bodies.. plus my 7 month girl spends most of the night in her organic thin futon I made for her {in her moses basket} yet about 3 hours of her night in our bed. Our 3 year has had a natural mattress since he was 18 months.

I'm so ready to have our queen bed out of our home!
