I just thought I would share that my SIL borrowed my Hypnobabies course a few months ago and started practicing. Early this morning, she had a surprise homebirth!

No signs of labor until her water broke at 10:45 pm and her baby girl was born in the tub at home at 1:30 am.

I am SO excited for her!!!! :joy::joy::joy::joy:

First of all, congratulations!

Secondly, that was my biggest fear when i was doing hypnobabies. I heard so many people say that they didn't experience pain and that the typical physical/emotional cues during labor that tell you it's time to get to the hospital/bc just aren't there when you do hypnobabies and I so worried I'd end up with an unplanned homebirth or giving birth in the car ride there (I was an hour and 15 minutes from the bc). But, I had a 28 hour long labor with baby #1 so I figured I was safe. That said, my second baby's labor was less than 3 1/2 hours. I really did not know I was in labor and did not think I needed to go into the birth center (despite my contractions being 2-3 minutes apart). I never had any that were further apart than that - I just woke up that way, but they just felt like braxon hicks and werne't painful and were only lasting 45 secondss. I didn't even wake my dh up for another hour and when I did I told him not to call the midwives or my doulas becuase I didn't want to wake them since I still had plenty of time. He ignored me and called anyway and we headed out. I was only at the bc for 40 minutes before she was born. I actually was pretty comfortable most of the ride there, still not sure if this was "it" but as I was listening to the tapes telling me to picture my cervix opening up more and more, I found myself thinking "but not too much yet. Open up a little more but not fully yet." I didn't even realize I was thinking that until after she was born and I remembered that and I wondered if I knew subconsciously that I was close and just couldn't let myself fully relax or I would have the baby in the car!

So, my point is (as long and rambling as it was!), I can totally see how a hypnobabies birth can be a surprise. I am planning next time to call my midwife as soon as I wake up with any kind of contractions, even if I'm completely comfortable!

I am thinking about buying something on Hypnobabies. Can you tell me what you used, so I can make sure to get the right one?

I ordered the Hypnobabies home study course online at http://hypnobabies.com/mylink.php?id=3812. It has the workbook, partners guide booklet, quick reference, and 12 CDs. It is very comprehensive and was soooooo helpful!

That's fantastic. I hear so many good things about hypnobabies ~ but I hadn't heard about them when I was pregnant. I used the mongan method book and cd ~ not nearly enough though I guess.

I believe in the power of hypnosis but think you really have to practice and have a good handle on the process before you go into labor. From what I hear hypnobabies is the best hypnobirthing product out there.

Good for your SIL! What a great birth story for the whole family to enjoy.

TonyaW, there is a 20% off sale at Hypnobabies at the moment, but there is also a set on Amazon.com that includes 2 free bonus CDs (very good ones that I recommend getting anyway!) and free shipping. So I would check that out, too, to see which is a better deal.

Congrats to your SIL!! What a beautiful story!

Is there anywhere to get used hypnobabies or would that not work?

Hypnobabies has a used set program where moms who are done with it can sell it back. Hypnobabies makes sure everything is there that should be and offers these discounted sets to moms who need a financial break. I think it's something around $80. You can call Hypnboabies at 714 952-2229 to ask them if they have any available. :) They started this program because so many of the sets sold on eBay aren't complete or aren't really Hypnobabies.

My mom had a very similar experience (without the hypnobabies, obviously) when I was born. She went to the hospital because she thought she might be in labor but wasn't sure, and it turned out she was fully dilated. I was born a few minutes later, obviously. :)

Congrats to your SIL! I'm thinking of giving hypnobabies a try myself.
