View Full Version : I just saw "The Orphan" last night. MysteryMama 08-10-2009, 07:57 PM It was worth watching. Totally creepy, completely took me by surprise. Anyone else see it? griffin2004 08-11-2009, 12:25 AM I haven't seen it, and won't be. The adoption community is urging people to avoid this movie. Here's more info if you're interested: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/31966443/ns/entertainment-movies/ HappilyEvrAfter 08-11-2009, 06:50 AM Warner Bros. hears concerns, says virtually every film offends someone They have a very valid point. MysteryMama 08-11-2009, 07:37 AM "The 'outrage' is an opportunistic moment for drum banging and fund raising," Greiner wrote. "What better way is there to make publicity and $$$$$ for yourself than to create a victim where none exists?" I completely agree with the above statement. That article is a bunch of crap. I can't get in to it without completely spoiling the movie, but in the end the movie has nothing to do with real orphans. Besides.... it's a MOVIE!!!!! Anyone who'd be negatively influenced by a horror film and not want to adopt anymore is, in my humble opinion, sad and weak minded and most likely has no business adopting a child anyway. :irked: Jessy1019 08-11-2009, 07:52 AM We went to see it last night. I wanted to see it for the anti-adoption content :joy: and had read the spoilers so I figured I wouldn't be as freaked out by it as I am other horror-movies-involving-kids. My partner really liked it (he hadn't read the spoilers), and thought it was good. I wouldn't call it good, but it was entertaining and funny . . . more than enough for me when it comes to movies. As an aside Marley (Greiner) is pretty generally awesome. :thumb Eavesdrop 08-12-2009, 10:06 AM :lurk: LizzyBNY 08-12-2009, 01:25 PM Not to spoil anything so I'll just ask why aren't other groups complaining about this movie. Jessy1019 08-12-2009, 02:41 PM Not to spoil anything so I'll just ask why aren't other groups complaining about this movie. If you're thinking what I'm thinking . . . then yeah, it's WAY more offensive to them than it is to a bunch of adopters. I don't think it paints adoption in a good light by any means, but as far as being actually insulting goes, there are other people who have more of a right to be up in arms about it. georgia 08-12-2009, 04:07 PM Hi, posts have been removed that were either personally directed/insultingly sarcastic, etc per the User Agreement (http://www.mothering.com/motheringdotcommunity-user-agreement): Do not post to a thread to take direct issue with a member. I think that is part of the reason why the Ring stuck with me for so long. Attila the Honey 08-13-2009, 06:11 AM Not to toot my own horn, but I figured out the big plot twist from the commercial. I laughed and said to dh "I bet ...(plot twist)" and he laughed and said, "No way, that would be funny" and I was right. I still want to see it, though. HappilyEvrAfter 08-13-2009, 06:27 AM So, the plot twist....is it "I see dead people" good or just "huh. whooda thunk" good? Jessy1019 08-13-2009, 06:33 AM So, the plot twist....is it "I see dead people" good or just "huh. whooda thunk" good? Definitely not the first. More "WTF?" than "whooda thunk?" though! By the time the scariest/most tense parts start, the movie's gone from scary to moderately hilarious. meemee 08-13-2009, 03:24 PM i just happened to click on this thread. i really had written off the orphan because it looked soo creepy to me. being a single mom i no longer watch creepy movies as i scare myself too much on my alone nights. so how creepy is it? i would not see coraline coz i saw the trailer and got scared. is it less creepy than coraline? I haven't even heard of coraline, so I don't know, but it's really not that bad... no supernatural demon stuff or anything like that. I loved the movie. I'm was surprised by a pp response that she figured out the plot from the trailor because I was completely taken by surprise, which is one thing that makes the movie good. It's definitely not the best movie ever or anything, but the little girls "secret" really blew my mind. LIke another poster said, it was more a "WTF?" kind of thing, and yeah I have to admit it was sort of funny, if you have a weird sense of humor. My brother and I laughed quite a bit on the way home now that I think about it. Attila the Honey 08-13-2009, 05:56 PM There was just something about that creepy girl that gave it away for me. Also, I said it half jokingly, because I thought it was just so absurd. :p natural_mama89 08-13-2009, 06:35 PM I haven't seen it, and won't be. Here's more info if you're interested: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/31966443/ns/entertainment-movies/ have the people who are protesting it actually seen the movie? I know that in the past there have been all kinds of people who bash a movie for what they think it is about without really knowing what it is about. Like a bunch of people protested Dogma because they thought it was negative toward Christianity, but in actuality it is not at all. Ugh. I'm the same way. Being a single mom really does change your movie persepctive. We love Corealine in our house. Can't wait to ge the 3D version, but we're generally not creeped out much. However...don't watch Mirrors (with Kiefer Suntherland) by yourself. The movie in general didn't make me bat an eye, but the one part with the kid alone in the mirror FREAKED ME OUT for weeks. Sorry, won't say more to keep from spoiling it, but....YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!! ROFLMAO. :D:thumb Sorry, have a bad habit of threadjacking....back to the topic at hand!! kathymuggle 08-14-2009, 07:59 AM This is the wildest thread - I had no interest in watching it before I lazily clicked this thread - now that has changed (much to my 13.5 year olds delight!)
