It didn't take me long to dislike tooth soap. Besides the price, my teeth never felt clean. I've been playing with different mixes to clean my teeth for the past couple years. I finally found something that we all like!
First, in The Perfect Prescription For Your Teeth by K.V. Van Cleef p. 29 states, "Teeth Stains? Dr Judd suggests to "grind colors and other materials off the teeth with wet powdered chalk. It is harmless to teeth." I don't suggest using chalk, however, because although it may say "non toxic" on the box, it could be contaminated with lead or other heavy metals."
I took this to mean not to use chalk from by climbing bag that I dust on my hands before attempting a climb. I found calcium carbonate by Now Foods at the HFS. I mixed about 2 TBSP of that with 3 squirts of Dr. Bronner's magic spearmint peppermint soap

and enough water to reach a wet pasty consistency.
It gives my teeth a nice clean feel, it's sweet, and has a nice mint flavor. I did contact Now Foods to request a copy of the heavy metals testing on their calcium carbonate. Their nutritionist told me that they only make testing results available to the hfs that sell their products. I'd have to inquire at my local HFS which I always forget to do.
It does dry out and must be kept in a sealed container. I use a small glass jar with plastic lid. It is also messy if it gets on your clothing so I brush with my head over the sink.
The Dr. Bronner's soap does have glycerin listed as an ingredient. I called the company and they verified that there is not glycerin added to the product. The glycerin listed occurs naturally from the saponification process of the olive oil.
Anyway, if anyone sees a problem with my mix please let me know. I love it so far:love.
