We seriously have a black fly problem. I have tried all my essential oils but they will not go away. they are disgusting and are landing on my lo's. Please tell me how to get rid of them! tia

What attracts this type of fly? That's the first thing you have to figure out. I'm not familiar with "black flys", but around here we get tons of fruit flies - and there are very specific things that have to be done to eliminate an infestation of them.

My mom goes after them with the hose attachment of a vacuum. Easier than swatting them. We only get flies if they come in the door with us (they like hanging out on the shady porch). Once in a great while it will seem like one laid eggs inside and there will be a bunch. We try to make sure doors are shut, screens don't have holes, and vacuum any that come in ASAP. They are attracted to light so sometimes I will turn out all the lights and open the door and the one that came in will go back out.

Are they the big, fat slow moving ones? Do you smell anything..um..dead? Because for us, the big gross flies hatch out of maggots/a carcass, but if those are the types the good news is they'll die in a few days and not come back. We used to get them from dead rodents in the walls and there was nothing to do but wait for them to die on their own. I know, blech!!!!!

The mean bite-y black flies are attracted to poo, which is why we make sure to clean up after our dog.

We kill 'em w/ a rolled up newspaper.

Gah, I'm grossed out just typing this--I hate flies!!!

Do you have window/door screens? Those sticky flystrips help somewhat and are cheap.
