Okay, after 20 months without birth control and 17 months of "really trying", after vitamins and herbs and acupuncture made no difference, I've decided to admit I need medical help. :( My partner and I have a doctor's appointment for Feb. 23.

We know we're going to insist on bloodwork on me and semen analysis on him. (Due to my extremely long/infrequent cycles, we think the problem lies w/me, but we want to be sure there isn't a problem w/him too.) We'd like to get an ultrasound on me, too, because I had a fibroid removed 2 years ago and want to be sure I don't have any new ones. Obviously I'll get a pelvic exam. What other tests should we ask for?

I'll give him the history of my cycles and the various treatments I tried for years before TTC as well as since :blah and tell him that my mother and one of her cousins had similarly infrequent cycles but conceived easily on Clomid. What else should we tell him?

Given my family history, I'm hoping that Clomid will do the trick! :bgbounce I just wanted to be SURE that I couldn't do it on my own....

If you have been charting, then those are good to have. If you have had any doc's appointments about anything fertility related, then copies of the charts are good.

Make sure that the doc checks thyroid, pituitary, testosterone, prolactin, DHEAS as well as insulin. If you are going to do a pelvic, you might want to get a ful STD screen just in case. (Not implying anything! But some things don't present with symptoms.)

Sorry honey. I wish that no one else ever had to go through this. :hug

It probably goes without mentionning that you'll want to check estrogen and progesterone levels. Some of these checks need to be done at specific points in your cycle.

I don't remember where you are,but remember that if your doctor isn't responsive or isn't in tune with where you are you don't have to stick with that doc. After talking to a friend who had a complete work up after one m/c, I am changing doctors because mine says there's no reason to do it since I haven't had three.

I don't want to have three. So in encourage you to find people in your area who might have been through this and find out who they like and how they've been treated.

I am sorry you have to go through this, I hope you either get spontaneously pregnant, while waiting, or discover an easily treatable problem, that has a babe in your arms soon.

Well, I got my period today for the first time in 4 months. I was pretty sure I wasn't pregnant, so I'm not upset---I'm actually seeing it as a good thing to "clean house" before seeing the doctor but to get it done enough in advance that I won't be bleeding all over the exam table. :p Maybe this means I can get right on the Clomid without having to induce a period first.
